Does riding my bike leisurely around the neighborhood really count as me exercising?

I'm trying to gain weight and I want to do it in a healthy way so I don't put myself at risk for any health problems. I can only ride about a maximum of 20 minutes for now but once I keep doing it every day I should be able to ride for longer right? Will it help my legs not to be so stick-leggy? Like does it still count as exercise if I'm not doing heavy duty biking? Or should I not ride my bike at all since I'm trying to gain weight?
