Does smoking really help you reduce stress? I'm probably not going to, but I am tempted to because I am very stressed right now.

Nicotine helps you be more efficient by giving you a 'buzz' but it certainly does not reduce stress. It actually makes your heart beat faster and everything.

I would strongly suggest smokeless tobacco instead. Preferably Swedish snus and the real stuff like General. It is steam pasteurized to remove most cancerous agents. So as far as tobacco products go, it is the safest though no tobacco is completely safe.

Nope. Nicotine withdrawal will increase your stress levels. Once you smoke and get your nicotine fix your stress levels will drop to normal until the next withdrawal starts. The deep inhaling is also said to relieve stress. You'd be better off just doing breathing exercises.

When someone is stressed he 's breathing quickly and he doesn't get enough oxygen, and as a result his heart beats fast. When you smoke a cigarette you take big breaths to take the smoke in. So it's not the smoke that makes you relax, it's the fact that you breathe more slowly. It's best to spend your time googling breathing techniques than take up smoking

most of the people who smoke do it AFTER the stressful situation is done
and they feel "stressed" because they are addicts and their bodies want the nicotine
and when they give it what it wants it shuts up lol so they think the cigarette made them less worked up

Don't do it, in the lo g run you will get addicted to it and it will affect your health in so many ways that you wouldn't want to think of and it i used to smoke once and it is horrible and I felt more stressed smoking compared to when I stopped smoking

My parents smoke and it doesn't seem to help them with stress. When they smoke, they just delay the task that's causing them stress, making them feel even more stressed. And their stress only gets worse if they can't find cigarettes or if they currently can't smoke.

Well I assumed you meant weed, silly me. No idea. Weed for sure relieves stress, but I think going to one of those places where you can break stuff is just as effective. Massages and yoga are also good for taking some stress. Wouldn't recommend smoking tho.

Nicotine is very much a relaxing substance, that is why people smoke.

I had a smoking phase in college and a few years beyond (from age 20 to 25), and would only smoke when drinking to get that alcohol/nicotine cross-fade that feels so euphoric, as well as enjoying the flavor (I smoked flavord cigarillos and hookah).

But it is a bad habit, i'm fortunate I wasn't nicotine addicted so it was easy to stop.

It will just make you form a habit which REALLY stresses you out when you can't indulge in it.

There are better ways to relieve stress than taking up a stupid habit like smoking.
