It depends on the people/person. My nephew is always the topic of dinner-table conversations at holiday meals, and today was no different!! I DON'T NEED TO KNOW about 'potty training' at the dinner table!! Some of my family are so clueless, with 'social graces'!!!
You have to gauge who you are talking with. Don't talk about loving Trump with a group of liberal, democrat friends!!
I can't think of one specific thing that I won't discuss, but with certain people!

I've had a rough few years with my health and work life. When people ask about me I deflect back to them very quickly. I'll just change the subject right away because I just don't want to talk about me, or my health problems, or my job, or even my personal life. You'd think it might be weird, but people love to talk about themselves especially if you seem super interested in them, so its never really been an issue.

I know what you mean, darling. Don't let anyone get you to speak about things you will rather not. I work with kids who have been sexually abused, and whose abusers the courts have empowered to abuse them more - intra-familial type, so I know what you mean.

Yes, my abuser was family. It's not just that it happened, it's like a huge statement about your entire life's dynamics. And the existence of this secret affects other people close to you. Kind of bewildering - even nearly 30 years later.

I completely understand. That is the very reason why I am very passionate about safeguarding children within the family as therein lies the highest risk, yet is the very place least looked at and the least place after it comes to light will a child ever be safeguarded - it is a real shame on our family justice system to be honest.

You may not agree with me, but if helps to find someone who is empathetic and whom you trust - or a professional trained in this area to speak to whenever your mind feels full with the imagery and thoughts and you want to unburden. For kids, I give them a notebook to pour their thoughs and fears into and it helps them massively! But I don't have enough experience with adult survivors to know if a notebook would have the same positive effect as it has on young children. Do look after yourself and always remember that it was never your fault and that you are not tainted or damaged - you were just a child, a precious beautiful child!
