If staying under the sun gives you “skin cancer”, then why there are so many “rednecks” who reach 60+ years old?

Rednecks stay under the sun A LOT. That’s why they are called like that (they get red necks, because of staying under the sun many hours). And I don’t think they put any sunscreen, because it’s too “metrosexual” for them. So why people criticize, if you stay under the sun, even with sunscreen on?

Same could be said for Okinawa people. They have the longest-living people in the world, and tons of centenarians (those who live past 100+ years).

Yet they're poor people, often farmers and fisherman, working under the sun every day. They practice the tradition of hara hachi bu (eating only to 80% satisfaction) which is probably one of the keys to the long lives.

Those without such fair skin will tend to be at much lower risk of skin cancer.

Also, just a guess, but probably the red-neck lifestyle might put them at a lower risk of diseases. They seem to be fairly outgoing types after all, into hunting and fishing and so forth.

If there are still these people it doesn't mean staying under the sun for a long time doesn't increase possibility for you getting skin cancer.. It is like saying if smoking kills why there are still many old smokers who go on smoking so hard

Its' not like 100% of people who spend a lot of time under the skin without using any form of protection like sun-screen or wearing a hat will get skin cancer and die. Similarly how not all people who smoke a cigarette will get lung cancer and die.

Staying under the sun unprotected simply will lower your quality of life. It will negatively impact your cardio/respiratory health, among other things, and increase chances of your getting many other diseases that could lead to your death. It's kind of like putting a target on your back. You won't get hit for sure, but it'll increase your chances.

Then what other solutions do I have? I have tanned A LOT since April without any sunburns. But what can I do? I cannot embrace my white skin.

There are plenty of sunless tanners that you can get at drug stores. Which are basically creams that you apply as evenly as possible to your skin, leave them for whatever amount of time that particular product tells you to, then wash it off. Though it's probably best to just go get a spray-tan so that you're more likely to have a more evenly-applied 'tan'.

Cancer is like a bucket. Every bad thing adds drops. every good thing removes drops. Only when the bucket is full, you get cancer. Some people add a lot of drops, some people have a small bucket.
