For running when I am trying to improve, I have the mindset of "if you aren't at a fish-out-of-water stage, you can keep going." That was one thing that I implanted solidly internally within the first few runs I ever went on. It was kind of how I knew how much harder I could push myself. I never had to deal with throwing up but that's also a good indication when one has gone too far.

Up until that, I try to keep pushing myself. I decided that a little pain (non injury related) is good, and the only way you'll ever get better is if you push through the burn. I realized that I wasn't blessed with ridiculous athletic ability, so I decided to compensate with just lots of effort. A positive mental attitude makes all the difference.

It was especially like that in track/cross country. After stopping after a race ended, I would be stumbling around for some minutes. A couple races I remember almost passing out. Now that I'm not in cross country anymore, I don't quite push myself to that extent, but I do still like to try and work hard. 👍

    To the limit! >:-[]

But seriously, if I'm competing against an opponent, it pushes me to try harder. I still remember way way way back when I was 10 or 11, and a girl in the audience cheered for my opponent to beat me in a race. Made me angry and want to prove her wrong. xD

I think I remember that because it was the first time I had ever been cheered against. Was shocking, but a good learning experience, haha.

ha well i didn't have much of an option playing college softball. i was literally the only catcher once season came last year so i literally caught every game, warmed up the pitchers and caught all of them at practice. I was catching (squating) on average 6 hours a day on game days )4 days of the week) and about 2 hours the other 2 days we had practice.

Now that I'm done with sports, i push myself with running but not lifting

I have found that, although it helps a lot with my stamina and overall fitness, I can't seem to enoy it anymore as it gives me no satisfaction afterwards or feel like I run for no reason, running feels "empty" for me whereas swimming and gym doesn't I have a purpose to be there and gives me better physique, performance and appearance. :p

Swimming works on my upper body, shoulders, legs, stamina and endurance, while also giving me significant muscle gain. It is also the most freshening sport for me, gives me more motivational satisfaction too, where running burns muscle and fat which i don't want.

      WIll you play softball again?

At school I spent too much time on it and now I kinda wish I studied more in school rather then playing sports.

Pretty far. At some point in track, I just said, "fuck it" and competed despite having 2 partially torn acls and mcls, fucked up lower back, a crack in my foot and a broken toe. In football, I fucked myself up plenty of times. Concussed many more. In rugby in college, I got a stinger in my left arm and kept goin and shattered parts of my shin and still played, but quit cause I got braces 😑. And I was playing ultimate at the same time, too

In terms of pushing my actual talents, pretty decently. I started football late so I had to play catchup and had to do a ton of studying to learn both offensive and defensive play books. But I also pushed myself physically, although it helped I was naturally fast (1 of the top hurdles in my state and 1 of the top jumpers in the nation)

I think in order to get better at any sport, you have to "push yourself and your boundaries just a little..." but always do it safely, and never over do it, if you hurt yourself, you just get set back...

I am a cross country runner, and I also run track.
So, I am distant runner, therefore I have to push myself very hard. 😅😌

I'm not really a sporty guy, personally. But when I have to play sports (PE classes) I pushed myself very hard. Turned out I was the most indestructible player in the school rugby team. 😉

Other than hitting the gym 2-4 times a week not much. Stop pushing too hard after my 3rd injury. A casual game of soccer is pretty much the only sport I do.
