Is losing a daughter to suicide after trying to get her admitted to a mental hospital an excuse to lie to get your other child committed?

My parents admitted to lying to get me admitted to a mental hospital when I suffered a bout of depression as a teenager. It turned out that the condition that was causing the depression is only made worse by hospitalization. I disowned them for it and when my mom was diagnosed with cancer and asked me to visit her I told her to fuck off and rot. But lately I've been having second thoughts. Do you think she had a justification for lying?

They lied and that was wrong but they did it because they wanted to help you and that has to count for something. You may never get another chance to see your mom think about all of the good times you shared. Do you really want the last thing you said to her her last memory of you to be of you telling her to "fuck off and rot"?

Suicide/depression is genetic. It's the right thing to do.

They most likely blamed themselves for not having saved your sister by sending her to a mental hopsital. Of course they would try and make it better in your case, obviously it backfired but they couldn't know. They were fearing for your life.

But it made me afraid to seek help for depression years later which led to my suicide attempt.

But they couldn't know that. They just had the best for you in mind. It didn't work as well as they thought it wouls but at least they tried!

You should go and see her. Trust me you don't want to have the feeling of regret one day that you didn't visit her. Even to just talk about the past and get answers, you should do it.

I did talk to her a few months after her diagnosis and that's when she admitted to it. Not only did it make my depression worse but when things got bad years later I was afraid to seek help because of it and attempted suicide. I told her about that and said "I hope you're proud of yourself" and stormed out.
