Sensory Deprivation tanks... anyone here ever tried it?

Ok, so im booked for a sensory deprivation tank tomorrow. Supposedly a good stress reliever, like a spa thing.

Basicallly a tank full of salt water designed to isolate your senses, so.. pitch black on the inside, no sound... you just float on your back. Like a coffin, you crawl in and the lid gets shut and there you are.

Im kind of nervous about it. Im claustrophobic a bit. And they want you to do it naked... im bringing my swimsuit.

for an hour, 3,600 seconds in a coffin full of saltwater and no light or sound.

I've never done this before and im not sure i can make myself do this.

Have any of you tried it and what was it like.

I haven't but I'd do it if I could. There's also these rooms that are apparently, as close to an absolute vacuum as you can get and the longest any one has stayed in one is like...45min or something. I'd love to try one for real. Id just be worried that like, there's a leak or something and you can't get it open or get out.

I have, it's a good relaxation but I can't do it with the tank shut. The first time I massively freaked out and thought I was drowning so I just keep the top open and turn off the light in the room

It's great for meditation and if you know ujjayi it just feels amazing

I think it makes it more manageable, I had no problems once it was open. I think part of it was how dark it was with it closed too, it literally feels like emptiness haha

ok, good tip, im kinda claustrophobic, just a touch and i was getting myself kinda worried about that part of it. I do yoga and meditation so i know ujjayi. At first it sounded like a fantastic idea, then as i started thinking about what was actually going to happen i got myself a little worked up... have almost cancelled once or twice, but i hear its really good.

I think you'll like it - if you get in and feel weird you could leave the light on but it is really nice experience. Very cleansing and relaxing

Closest I have comee is an MRI. Also no light or much sound for an hour, but you are in a normal gravity situation.

Some people cannot handle it and have to be removed before the test is complete... If you're too nervous, maybe they can give you something to calm your nerves

Is this an experiment of some kind?

No... they have them at the spa, fairly common around here.

There is enough salt for you to float comfortably? Damn, hope you don't have any cuts.

My biggest concern would be sneezing or something and going under without having space to kick back up.

I think there is enough space to sit up in them, it just seems kinda freaky to me. And you they load them up with epsom salts, they compared it to dead sea kind of densities.

Hmm i'd want it above the dead sea lol in density, you kinda float low there (or maybe fatties like me).

I think the purpose of being naked is to have 0 sensation, you would feel the change of water on the swimsuit vs your skin. It should be an interesting experience, i'll remember to ask you about it - it must be as close to feeling "dead" as one can get.

Anyway, i'm sure they have excellent safety so you won't be at risk of anything. Just go there with an open mind. With no light or sound, your senses shouldn't be able to trigger claustrophobia i am guessing?

It was disorienting at first, i left the door open. And then weird, and then disorienting again getting back out into the real world. I might do it again.

Seems like an amazing experience. I'm not claustrophobic at all so I have no issues with that.
I wonder what kind of experience I'll have as my brain is very imaginative.

Never tried it but I knew 2 people who did, I was in the army and I had a friend who did it and he said it he did it to see if it helps with his PTSD. He said it was relaxing and liberating. Another person I knew (from the army also) said it freaked him out and made him feel anxious and claustrophobic.

They can always let you out if you've had enough. No one else will be in the tank to harm you. Confront your fears! Watch a bunch of motivational videos if you need to before you go.

I am completely irrational when it comes to closed spaces like this. And i know its kinda weird, but it actually gets to me that other people have been in that thing nude. Doesn't seem like it should matter but it sure as hell is in my head.

They have this thing to clean your tonsils its called enhanced interrogation and you gargle water for as long as you can over and over with a bag on your head to block out the light and feel relaxed, its just so cool!

its like $40 for an hour, and they have spa deals you can do with friends too, so you can get package deals so you could do a spa day thing with the girls for an afternoon...

I would do it i can see it being very relaxing. As for your claustrophobia, one way to beat your fears is to confront them head on.
