Depends on how they handle it and what they expect from me.
No I was talking to a girl recently and we both have depression, but mine got the best of me and I had to break it off. Before it turned into something.
It is.
I really don't want to deal with it.
I have mood swings to deal with and I really really would like to avoid anything else.
I wish to clarify this answer.
It's a deal breaker BEFORE the relationship. I would not start dating a person if she has depression.
But once I'm with someone and she did have one - I will support her all the way, but she has to be willing to go to a counsel or treatment.
But in all honesty, if the depression is moderate to severe - there's very little chance the relationship would work, as I would see it as a very toxic relationship.
It depends on the reason if it's from herself then possibly but if like me your suffering with a thyroid problem and adrenal gland problem which also leads to depression then no.
Not a deal breaker but most people don't understand depression unless it is happening to them. Being depressed can really show who your true friends are.
So some would run away instead of helping them get through it? Some love that is.
No, it just makes me want to be there for them even more.
Why would I risk my mental health by being around someone like that
I feel like the illness is not the deal breaker, but whether and how much you attempt to battle it.
Nah. I can see why it would be for some people, but personally, I don't really mind.
No because i know what its like and not dating a person because they have depression wold be just plan asinine. And besides sence I've been there i wold be able to help that person when they hit a rough patch.
Well I have a lot of depression... but since I'm in a relationship my boyfriend is trying to help me
Wouldn't they be considered emotionally unavailable if they have depression?
No I have depression but refusal to get treatment would be
For starters, I don't even understand why most people use the term "depressed" for the majority of their emotional states
Nope it isn’t. I’ve dated guys with depression and it sucks, I try to help them, but that doesn’t mean he’s less attractive 🤗
I think not, instead I would help her out. I can understand what happens under those conditions as I've gone through it. Just need to show but of pro-active like your are doing something.
Nope. But I feel it's not the first thing you share either. Like, build trust and get to know each other, but you don't define yourself as your illness. Care about each other then say "hey I got depression, just so you know it happens sometimes"
help them get over depression instead of calling it quits.
What crappy choices. Where's the maybe? Depression is a broad statement.
No depression isn't a deal breaker for me in a relationship.
Pretty much everyone is depressed, and with good reason. Life sucks. Let's just be miserable together.
If it was someone I cared about I would rather try to help
If it was someone I just met perhaps I would not be so terribly interested
Only if the person chooses not to get help. I'd rather not be with someone that is continually depressed and has no desire to cease such mental state.
Depends how supportive your partner is and if they are it could help the relationship if not it will but a wedge in it unfortunately.
We first lived through her depression. a few years later through mine
Chronic depression, yes. I-get-pretty-sad-from-time-to-time depression, no.
No. It'd make it hard to get into the relationship initially though. Depression happens though.
I've dealt heavily with depression in the past, and feel it come up on my life frequently. I'm very supportive because of this and understand how to help very well.
In a new relationship, yes, it would be.
If it were my husband, probably not.
Is he already has depression before getting into a relationship, then yes
If he started to have depression while we are dating, then no
No because if I didn't date them because of it I would be a hypocrite because I have depression too.
No I suffer depression and anxiety so I really hope not
No both my partner and I suffer from it and we are helping each other.
Yes. Having to deal with someone else's severe mental illness would hold me back in life.
What if it’s not severe
Any level on clinical depression is severe enough to be a deal breaker
Ah okay
I would try and help. isn't that what relationships are for? Helping my SO. And expecting help in return?
No but she has to understand what it's doing too it's and trying to get help
I have severe anxiety and depression to the point where I shake, vomit, heart pulpitations, etc. it wouldn’t bother me, you would just have to try and comfort them.
I have had depression and it never really goes away so I can't be with someone who'll bring me down
No. Everybody has their own issues. I want to help them through that.
Depends on their attitude towards it and if they let it affect the relationship.
When he lashes out and blames you for every thing, then treats you like shit, after months of it, I left.
@Letschat113 That sounds like projection which is generally classified as a coping mechanism for anxiety rather than depression, however they're not mutually exclusive so maybe both? However I don't think depression causes aggressive behavior.
It shouldn't be. If someone is depressed or even a bit down they need friends or a partner supporting them.
Define "depression". Today everybody has depression each time thy pet dies and that is NOT depression
OP means clinical depression.
Then it really is a deal breaker. Only if you love each other can afford a depression together
Yeah
It's pointless to be in a relationship if you're depressed.
It change nothing. If you love someone, you will support Her/him whatever tomorow
If it’s as bad as it is for someone I currently know who has it, then absolutely.
I suffer from depression myself, so no.
But you dont seem like it. Always in a good mood when we talk
@Darknut123 it comes and goes. When it hits, I'm a very different person. I've posted questions about this.
I don't see it as a deal breaker though
@Darknut123 me either.
Very nice to know😊
Need to support your partner. Live with love.
Yes if they don’t take medication for it
No, most people are this way.
Only if it's poorly managed
can be if a person diesnt get help
We could be sad together
My answer too
@Kandy-Kane want some Cheetos?
Heck yes! Omw
@Kandy-Kane rad man
I’m watching up in smoke
I’m getting the munchies
Lmao
Depends on how bad it is.
But she would need to be open to get help.
No because I have it myself
Yes cuz I am depressed myself lol
l look after the girl
I'd be a hypocrite of I said no
If I said yes*
I'm English, we're all depressed all the time.
