Are most gym rats insecure?

I'm asking this because I met a former track & field athlete/long jumper who did a few years of vale todo in the gym a few weeks ago

the part that intrigued me about him is how fast & high he used to jump
(he showed me old tapes of him in his prime) he was very lean & cut & he was pretty technical with his vale todohe showed me a few of his 2nd place medals but what intrigued also was how quiet & humble he was... he told me he would never boast about his triumphs & abilities now when you compare this guy to the gym rats who act like animals & most likely wouldn't be scouted for the Olympic trials then you see someone who is truly secure in themselves I'm shocked that someone with that much ability would not want to showcase their skills

in my opinion there's 2 kind of gym rats, one that has goals, discipline, wants to strive to get better, dominates humbly and maybe one day compete at competitions for USAPL or bodybuilding, too. and then there's the second kind of gym rats that never got past his/her insecurity issues, possibly resorted to using steroids or other drugs, acts like a total dick, bothering/harassing random people while they're trying to exercise, only wants to have a body to look good, show off, seek attention, and validation from others because he now feels like he's entitled to have attention for not getting any while he was obese/fat/skinny and/or ugly in the past.

i'm the first kind of gym rat and i always get harassed by both males and females of the 2nd type of gym rats. being at a local commercial gym there's more of the 2nd type than 1st, they always grillin at us, always trying to one-up me, they follow us around the gym, always getting in the way, there's a dude that doesn't seem to have done legs at all, he see me getting under the bar and setting up for bench press or squats and he'll purposely come to grab weights off my station when there's plates all over the gym. there this one gym rat girl who always squats next to me on leg day even when there's a bunch of power racks available, she always wait until i have the weight on my back and take 3-4 steps back before she starts adding or removing weights from her barbell and then i have to either wait for her or put the weights back. sometimes she makes me want to smash her face with a 45lbs weight but i'll always end up telling myself to focus, chill out, and ignore them.

I'm not hating but the fact that just maybe most gym rats will never have his actual athleticism no matter how hard they train
