A couple of reasons, 1 we do it to get time to ourselves yeah it happens... but also sometimes the poop does not plop all at once especially those little guys they will take their time. Sometimes it is about waiting for the bowels to allow you to get rid of the rest because at times it will tease you with a little and you get up and then you have to go again, so you might as well sit it out and make sure.

If you go to wipe, and smear something around, it just creates an obscene mess. So we wait it out if we can, we sit there until we know it's safe to continue forward. This isn't just me either.
