It is something of the fallacy of the false alternative. Neither is especially good for the human body.
In general, alcohol has harsher and more dangerous short term effects. In the longer term, the data seems to support the notion that marijuana is more dangerous.
Obviously alcohol inhibits mental and motor functions in relatively short order and to a higher degree than does marijuana. Drunk driving being the most obvious example. The impairment of such skills from a marijuana high is also there, but not generally as pronounced.
Of course, over the long term, alcohol abuse can have debilitating physical effects. With damage to the liver and such. It is not as if there are no long term effects.
That said, the long term effects of marijuana tend to be more damaging. There is evidence that it enhances the odds of long term mental illness, impairment of IQ, and it tends to be a "gateway drug." That is the data show that the more marijuana use over time, the odds are that such a user will go on to harsher illegal narcotics.
Even then, the effects of marijuana use in terms of the "high" tend to be more immediate than with alcohol. The consumption of the latter must be more intense and prolonged to attain the same effect as one does of marijuana.
So six of one, half dozen of the other. The difference is the culture and not the drug. Up to now, alcohol has been woven into the culture more deeply and is regulated differently. The argument then being that marijuana is just another alcohol.
That begs the question of why the society wants another alcohol. The costs of alcohol are not small and to create another alcohol is an odd policy goal.
It is not rational in a strictly logical sense, but we are where we are. The trick of the game is not to make matters worse, but to make them better. It begging the question in any case of how those who advocate for "another alcohol" can make an a priori claim to a rational argument.

I think smoking alcohol and drinking marijuana are worse...
But real talk, I think alcohol is far more detrimental all things considered. Both substances have a way of lowering your inhibitions, but only one of them really mellows you out. Alcohol can take the edge off and make you calmer but the emotions are still there whether you feel them as strongly or not. In a way alcohol is like Novocain for your brain and emotions. Marijuana is more like the laughing gas in the dentist office that makes you tired and a little loopy. You're a lot less likely to have angry outbursts when high on Marijuana than if you are drunk on booze. I think drinking alcohol is far far worse whilst Marijuana is potentially problematic, but not to the extent that I think it needs to be illegal. In fact, I think it does the job of alcohol better than alcohol. If alcohol were banned and replaced with marijuana I wouldn't see that as a horrible thing. I don't really think alcohol needs to be banned in the first place, but if only one were legal I think it'd be better for it to be marijuana.
Until people start dying from marijuana I will definitely say alcohol is worse. Plus there's many ailments that marijuana helps with. I've never heard of alcohol helping any medical conditions. At most it might sterilize a wound. Also its unlikely that marijuana would make anyone angry and get into fights like alcohol can. And not one person has overdosed on marijuana. I'm sure I could go on and on with examples of why alcohol is worse but I think I've made my point.
Alchohol. More dangerous by pretty much every measure. Easily possible to overdose on, eliminates inhibitions more (leading to more stupid decisions + violence), affects driving/general motor control more severely, etc. The only thing that makes weed worse than alchohol is that because it's not as dangerous/lets people function better, people might be more inclined to take it less seriously and use it more.
Alcohol cause you can get addicted to it. It wrecks your liver and does bad stuff to your brain etc... Pot only makes you relax and eat.
That's coming from someone who has been drinking since she was 14 and doing pot since she was 16. I'm not a heavy smoker or and heavy drinker but throughout the years, I've realised that marijuana is in a way milder than alcohol.

Alcohol is also a drug... Caffeine is the most widely used and least regulated drug of all time. But alcohol is more socially acceptable compared to weed.
From personal experience and through many studies easily found online, Alcohol is far worse, both in short term and long term use.
Poorer judgement skills, poorer coordination (drinking and driving as a perfect example of both) mental and physical addiction, liver damage, and of course you can easily overdose on alcohol, where you either puke your damn guts up all over the place or die from alcohol poisoning... Aggressive behaviour and fighting, the list of issues is quite long.
Weed on the other hand, though it isn't a perfect angel of a substance, is a lot easier to keep under control, no drastic side effects like the above, short term effects, no physical addiction to speak of, and if you tried to overdose by smoking weed, good frigging luck.
I used to drink a lot back in my teens and 20s. now I might drink once every 1 or 2 years. Back then I also did LSD, Hash, Oil, Shrooms and Ecstasy along with weed and alcohol.
Out of all of those and using each on and off for a couple of years, I can personally say that the worst ones for doing a number on your body and health were Ecstasy and Alcohol... But I always felt frigging great on Ecstasy, where Alcohol often made me moody and sometimes depressed.
The only thing I do now a days is a little pipe of weed just before bed to help with sleep. Sex is great on it too, but that's a story for another time.Both are (properly used) mild intoxicants. One is not "worse" than the other. Abuse of either is what is bad and harmful. That said, health wise MJ is less likely to kill or poison you. This, however depends on the delivery method as "vaping" can cause severe lung damage. But there seems to be no issue with smoking it the old fashioned way. Smoking weed is not linked to lung cancer and emphysema the way tobacco is. Alcohol can poison and liver damage among other health concerns are prominent. Again, this assumes abuse. Either substance used responsibly is harmless and even beneficial. (Red Wine in moderation is associated with lower rates of heart disease; MJ used responsibly treats a number of different medical issues including non addictive pain relief, insomnia (and absent the issues of sleepwalking from the Prescription drugs), anxiety, and a multitude of others symptoms. I have also noted that I can exercise after smoking weed but not after a drink or two. I have also noted that despite the legality and despite the fact that it is healthier than alcohol women generally (NOT ALL) are down on it while loving their wine. I suspect it is due to the propaganda they were fed while younger-i do not note the same hostility from the younger generation. I also note that I see more Baby Boomers and X'ers in dispensaries than Millennials
Smoking (weed or anything) is more harmful to you, but smoking also stinks and leaves that stink behind in clothes, furniture, on walls, etc. If someone drinks alcohol right next to you, there are no physical effects to you, but that's not true of smoking.
Certainly alcohol is far from being free from negative effects - several friends and former friends are alcoholics and I have seen the damage it can do - but I have seen similar effects in heavy weed smokers, who waste away their lives doing as little as possible besides getting high.
I think weed should be legal, but I think it should be treated like alcohol - in particular with regards to driving and "open containers." I don't care if people want to smoke in their own home, but I have a huge problem with people driving under the influence and especially smoking while driving, but also driving to some other neighborhood to smoke.Personally weed. And weed is worse for teens than alcohol. Once your brain is matured though it's not nearly as bad.
When I smoked weed regularly I had breathing problems/weak cardio endurance. Permanent brainfog til I quit, basically my brain was fried. Couldn't even make decisions, weed made me emotional as well. I have pretty much no side effects regularly drinking compared to regular smoking.
I'm sure some are gonna say how weed is a miracle drug, but it's not. It's still considered a drug like everything else. Some people tolerate it differently as well.The research shows that alcohol is the more dangerous drug. While both substances cause a high that comes with impaired thinking and slower reaction times, alcohol has many more harmful effects. Overdosing on alcohol can cause alcohol poisoning, which is often fatal. Meanwhile, it's impossible to take in marijuana at a rate fast enough to cause an overdose. Alcohol can damage your liver and kidneys over time. Excessive alcohol use can cause lasting damage to your body that if not taken care of soon enough can lead to permanent damage. Excessive marijuana use can lead to damage to the throat. However, this throat damage is pretty easily reversible with a combination of modern medicine and a few months of abstinence. Alcohol is a moderately addictive drug that ruins the lives of millions of people. Marijuana is not addictive.
Drinking alcohol is exponentially worse. I don't drink, because I don't experience negative symptoms (not even noticeable coordination impairment) so I drink and unconsciously black in and out while interacting with people until I'm out cold, which takes the alcohol a few tries. Then I'm up and Adam again to do random things until I choose to fall asleep. I've watched myself on video almost every time I've blacked out (a handful of times) and I clearly have no discomfort. I have no fear of dying from alcohol poisoning. Because of that I've decided to quit drinking altogether. Plus, 3/4 a bottle of vodka only brings me an amount of joy and energy that I can get from a cup of coffee and a hit of good weed.
I do not smoke weed, anymore, however...
Weed is not really harmful... perhaps if you get blasted and try to drive... I have never seen weed make people more unstable or angry, alcohol on the other hand can delfinetly turn a cheerful person into major monster. For the most part people that smoke weed Nd freak out either are new to it and being irresponsible or they are really unstable anyways... for most people it just adds a few levels of chill and make them quite loquacious and want carbs. There are very little to no known long term side effects of (non-smoked) weed and lots of recent studies showing the positive benefits. Alcohol has a lot of bad side effects and is very easy to OD on, a huge list of do not mix withs and a whole slue of health and mental/emotional issues that go along with it. My opinion 100% worse = alcohol.
Oddly enough I do drink a bit, but don't smoke weed... Weed is even legal here... wtf me...All the data needed for an informed decision on cannabis legalization has already been collected and can be found at the CDC web site.
Numbers of deaths per year in the USA:
* Prescription Drugs: 237,485 + 5,000 traffic fatalities
* Tobacco: 480,000
* Alcohol: 88,013 + 16,000 traffic fatalities
* Marijuana: 0, none, not a single fatal toxic overdose and by comparison to alcoholic beverages and pharmaceutical drugs almost no traffic problems.
So, which is safer? Legalize, regulate, and TAX recreational cannabis!Alcohol is by far the worst. Though weed has its downs. For me I forget shit easily. Since I hardly sleep. Add the memory loss for lack of sleep. I can legit have my phone and forget its in hand. Alcohol I don't like cause too much can black you out and wake up feeling like shit.
Neither is addictive for me. I hardly do both of them.
I do however do something else that is hard to get addicted to even though I love it.Have seen affects of both 'Weed' and alcohol, idiots smoke that trash, and stupid idiots get drunk!
Brought up around both substances, and the effects are hideous, the mind is blocking itself from ever appreciating or experiencing. Family members thought it were fun, and turned a blind eye, could see and distract myself from seeing the effects it has had!Unless you suffer from schizophrenia, in which case marijuana can be quite harmful, I would say drinking alcohol is worse.
I did a lot of REALLY dumb shit when I drank.
When I smoked, the dumb shit I did was pretty minor, like forgetting my keys hahaAt your age you really can't speak to either. As a 41 year old ex sailor I can tell you that there is no worse. It all comes down to the individual's ability to control. The neither of them are bad in themselves. To even think that shows you're very young. You have to approach any vice with maturity.
Alcohol has taken the lives of 4 of my friends , including my late best one , it is far more detrimental to health. Also , being an ex bouncer , alcohol fuels violence and criminal damage and cause a lot of direct and indirect damage. Alcohol is OK in moderation , but alcohol addiction is worse than even opiate addiction , sudden withdrawal will lead to death. I use weed in limited amounts.
Are you seriously going to ask this. Free your mind. Stop buying into this bullshit propaganda.
I'm an "alcoholic in recovery". I drank heavily from 14 until almost 3 years ago. Alcohol withdrawels kill people. Heroin withdrawals can not. Mother nature grows pot out of the dirt for us to enjoy.Not even a close race. Let’s just check the death statistics.
I’ve been working at a hospital for about 6 years and I have never seen or heard about anyone coming into the ICU because of cannabis. But there are daily alcohol poisonings, car crashes, accidents and so on.Both are bad but because you said smoking, I'll say smoking marijuana is worse.
It's also impossible to limit the potency of it.
Alcohol is generally bought from a store which sells bottles or cans or a glass of it out of a large keg which all have a premixed level of the alcohol and other ingredients.
So that makes smoking marijuana the worse of the two.Going out on the piss , your going to smoke fags, it starts out ok then b4 you know it your in a fight or someone is starting some crap. Then the hangover , and all the rubbish you did you can't remember. Yet, it can be good , but let's face it alcohol effects is all different , sadness , depression , the list goes on.
Smoke marijuana you just chill out , have a laugh , eat some food , that's it. I will let you decideDrinking. pot dont make you loud abusive slurring your words violent etc. im not saying not everyone that drinks do get that way. most pot head or the ones that do smoke tend to be more calmer laid back etc. pot has been proven to be helpful with many things so im in favor of it. do i smoke no but i have in the past.
I'm a drinker. I will tell you from experience, along with every study ever, anywhere at anytime. Drinking is far worse. From health to criminal ramifications to severe addiction and detox..
I don't drink, and I don't smoke. But drinking have coated several millions a year in damages. It also cost several millions in health related issues. It costs several millions in mental health issues. It also responsible for lots of death. Marijuana just makes your relaxed and you want to eat. So it's really clear that drinking is a million times worse. But of course all things can be abused.
