The biggest culprit of a UTI is e. coli. E. coli gets into our urinary tract by having a bowel movement and not wiping properly. You can be the neatest most cleanest wiper in the world and still get a UTI. You can even get them if you have diarrhea and it gets into your urinary tract. Another cause is dehydration and not getting enough hydrating fluids. And lastly holding your urine too long is another cause. But like I said e. coli is the biggest culprit and e. coli is loaded with bacteria. There are no home remedies and you could drink a keg of cranberry juice a day and still not cure it. Cranberry juice isn't going to irradiate that bacteria. If a UTI isn't properly treated it can cause your kidneys to become infected. Also repeated untreated UTIs can scar the inside of your bladder and kidneys. Also a UTI can cause you to bleed. Meaning that the infection can cause inflammation and bleeding that will show up in your urine. For me the tell tale signs of a UTI are burning when you pee, frequency like you constantly feel like you have to pee but little to no pee comes out and I always have cloudy looking urine. I have even had one so bad that I had a fever, chills and back pain. All of these symptoms are miserable and this is why you need to go to a doctor to get treated. Sure it's pain in the ass but once you get an antibiotic you will be feeling better. Another thing is that since UTIs are expected in women of child bearing age it's a quick process. You walk-in and you give a urine sample and they have a quick way to preliminarily determine if there is bacteria present in your sample and then they write you a script or actually give you the medication on the spot. Best wishes to you.

Mayo Clinic recommends:
「• Drink plenty of water. Water helps to dilute your urine and flush out bacteria.
• Avoid drinks that may irritate your bladder. Avoid coffee, alcohol, and soft drinks containing citrus juices or caffeine until your infection has cleared. They can irritate your bladder and tend to aggravate your frequent or urgent need to urinate.
• Use a heating pad. Apply a warm, but not hot, heating pad to your abdomen to minimize bladder pressure or discomfort.」
The other sources also recommend boosting vitamin C intake, probiotics (in kefir, kimchi, kombucha, probiotic-yogurt, sauerkraut, and some types of cheese), and better hygiene-practices (in sources #2-3).

If it's mild you could try large quantities of cranberry juice and heavy amounts of vitamin C. If it doesn't improve within a few days, you need to see a doc.
