Do you take supplements?

I take whey, casein and bovine collagen.
I take these at different times of the day to have steady access to protein, and I also take bovine collagen for its health benefits.
There is pretty solid evidence suggesting that collagen may very well be the best protein for your body overall, because of its effect on skin and joint health that other proteins may not have.
Collagen is the only supplement I recommend to everyone, regardless of their fitness goals.
As for stuff like BCAAs, creatine, "electrolyte drinks" and all that stuff, I've done extensive research on them as part of my job, but I haven't found a good reason to recommend any of them.
Especially "gainers" or "fat burners" which not only fail to do what they are advertised to do, but may even be quite bad for you.
I've seen "gainers" that were mostly made of maltodextrin, that ain't gonna "gain" you anything other than fat, intestinal inflammation and whatever other detrimental effects from the blood sugar spikes they cause.
The only other thing I recommend are plain vitamin supplements, especially Iron, vitamin D, A and calcium, those can't really hurt you (except for iron!) and it's better to have them than not.
Why not marine collagen?
I take maltodextrin for longer runs, maybe other sugars better?
I like to eat iron rich super foods like cacao powder, beet root powder, spinach and flaxseed.
Because I take way, way more collagen than you need for health benefits alone, since I use collagen as a straight protein supplement also.
At that point, the lower bioavailability of the bovine collagen doesn't matter much, and you will be getting more of collagen type 3 along with it than you do with marine collagen.
Marine collagen IS better for the average person who takes smaller, more affordable doses of collagen (under 10 grams a day).
Especially for those who do not workout and don't need it as a source of protein.
I don't, I lift weights like 10 years and I only got supplements for 1.5 year then I stopped it. It didn't satisfy me to shape my body and build muscles with help of supplements, it doesn't make any sense to do sports when you take shit loads of chemicals and all that unknowm stuff in your body. I wanted to keep myself healthy and strong at the same time, that's why I don't use any supplements.
I also had a friend once who used Gainers and it resulted with his kidneys stopped working, so he had to stay in hospital for 6 months because of it. Supplements also decrease testestorone hormones by time, so I am against it.
Maybe I shouldn't use supplements. I used to not spend my money on such thing but now I'm experimenting with whole lot of stuff (image).
Well if you want my opinion, I'd say don't use supplements but everyone has diffrent genetics. Do supplements really work? They do, u can gain muscle more easily but afterall its something ''chemical'' also most of doctors say in time it lowers down testestorone hormones and causes u have less sperms.

In the winter I take D-vitamins because it gets so dark and lack of sunlight can really fuck with ones mood.
Sometimes I refrain from eating meat for a while. Like 1-6 months or so. Then I take B12-vitamins because there are few sources outside the animal kingdom where I can get that.
Sometimes I eat poorly or I am recovering from a hangover, maybe I am sick. Then I take general ABCDE-vitamins to boost or bolster my recovery.
Coconut water is good for hangovers because of its mineral content and water.
Thanks! I will lok into thatπ€π
Protein powder, but I mix it in a blender with juice, before freezing it and having it later - it's whey protein and I don't like the milky texture, so juice cancels it out a bit.
Basically I mixe with with hemp protein powder for extra protein and some fibre, but in the last fee weeks or so, I've been adding sone tablets in there too, don't know which ones though, like zinc, b12, d3, etc, just for some extra micro nutrients.
Protein and juice, I will try that.
Hmm, d3 gel tablet in a blender, does it blend:)
I put the tablets in first, I just don't want to taste it like that, though I wouldn't mix an oil based pill or capsule with that, it'll ruin the whole thing, lol. The juice I use is some diluted one and diet soda, it freezes well and thaws into a bit of a slushy consistency. It's also low in calories, although artificial sweeteners are controversial.
B12 is a vitamin that is generated by the fermentation of bacteria on the soil. When you buy products from the supermarket, since all food is cleaned thoroughly, that vitamin is gone except if supplemented to the animal.
But since I eat vegan, I only eat vegetables. So as mean of precaution I take a B12 supplement formulated by the vegan society, that additionally provides those micro-nutrients that you tend to lack when you eat badly.
If I was eating directly from the orchard I won't need that. But B12, even when it takes years to deplete, is crucial as your neurological system needs it to function.
Supplements I take:
Vitamin d3 because I dont tan all day
Vitamin k2 because I dont eat a lot of fermented food
Manganese, copper, niacin and vitamin c because I want healthy skin, tendons and ligaments
Calcium and magnesium for muscle and bone health
Molybdenum and boron as cofactors of copper and calcium
And lithium, once a month, because it helps with the absorption of all those minerals
Wow.
And lithium. Now I will do some research about lithium for human health.
Have you considered natural supplements that includes those minerals? ( I mean, superfoods like spirulina, chia seeds or something)
Dong quai, shouldn't be used while pregnant and breastfeeding.
What's special about the herbal remedies, a lot of the time, is that that plant is a mineral hog for a specific mineral. As long as I can get a supplement that I can absorb, I'm ok with it being an unnatural source. It's not a preference but for convenience it's my current reality.
Okay π
I don't know.
no. i do proper naturally healthy nutrition. i don't think that those "supplement" makes know what's good for me. also i think if you consider under which sanitary conditions supplements are made, you would probably puke. there's a reason, "supplements" aren't considered "food".
I use a whey protein powder in orange juice. I take a multi vitamin and 500 units of D3. I use the protein shake as breakfast.
I take 2000 units of D3 every other day, instead of 1000 every day to save money.
I take 10,000 IU every day, if I remember to
@Unbeatable
10000 IU is too much and dangerous.
I take vitamin D , Hawaiian Spirulina , Calm (natural stress relief) aka magnesium , and powdered vitamin C
Oh I also use plant based protein powder
I take creatine and protein.
Everything else looks like snake oil
Yes!! Creatine and protein are the best. Well, for strength training at least.
For cardio, I feel the the benefits from the beet root powder.
I just eat canned beets.
Other than stomach capacity and just not liking the taste do you know of any benefits of using the powder?
Your urine and stools don't get red from the powder in my case.
It's not like it matters π
.
No, I don't know other benefits, other than the convenience.
Here comes someone with the joker produces shenanigans 🙄
gag if you donβt like what I said 👎 you know what to do! 😃
Vitamin B12 and Folic acid for red cell production, Vitamin D because I am not in the sun enough, and Iron because I am anemic.
That's it.
Yes, mostly 🌿 herbal supplements
I enjoy reading about health related stuff. I use a lot of spices and herbs in "cooking" mainly because of the health benefits not the flavor.
Which one do you ingest if I may ask?
Dandelion root helps with urinary tract infections.
Astrogulus is for immune support
Green tea for weight loss
And dong quai for late period
Does quai cause abortions?
@Unbeatable
I honestly donβt know, since Iβm still a Virgin. I also deal with hormonal stress that sometimes my period is a month late and I take dong quai to regulate my hormones. Or I drink red raspberry tea π΅ to help with pms or smoke π¨ weed which also helps.
Do you have a lot of hormonal stress in general or just related to periods?
@Unbeatable
