Guys, Do you think my Thumb Nail is gonna come off?

Friday night, I was putting away groceries, and somehow got my thumb smashed, it all happened so fast. It was so painful, my not booted foot pounded down on floor and hard to breathe. CBD was put on it multiple times and ice packs. It really is painful

um, about 3 hours ago, hurt my other thumbnail, and this is worse, black on top and under nail and on thumb, very swollen, hurts like you know what, not typing with it. iced it, it feels broke, and think this nail will come off

I've smashed my nails multiple times. I never lost my nail. I did damage my nail bed so it's only attached to part of my finger though. It will hurt for a while. Try to wrap it with plenty of gauze to protect it from getting hit again until the pain subsides.

Okay, I was thinking gauze, wasn't sure. or just use a wrist/thumb brace. "which would r e a l l y hurt to put my thimb into that part of the brace. I think I may have gauze. thnks

hi, Wiredone, I found gauze and medical tape. ok, so here's another question, do i wrap my hand too, or just my thumb?

To keep it on your thumb you can wrap your hand too. It might keep falling off if you don't. It's just to add cushion so if you do hit it , it won't hurt as much. It could take a couple weeks to heal

Don't forget to keep icing it for the first 24-48 hours to keep the swelling down.

Do you think your thumb is broken?
Did you break the skin?
Is your thumb and thumbnail discolored or bruised?

I have blue nail polish on, there is a thick line where the polish is missing from left to right of my nail.

Nah, also I had already bumped it 4 times again afterwards.
I may have under the nail, I can't tell, ause my nail is real long.
Not sure if the nail is, the skin is discolored

Did I read that you used gauze? Did the skin break and bleed?

It didn't see blood

If you can bend it and didn't see blood I don't think you'd need to wrap it.
If the nail didn't lift off immediately then it will stay for a while. If you smashed it so hard that it's discolored, you'll see when you change your nail color, no rush, then you could lose it but generally a new nail will start to grow underneath the damaged one and will eventually push it off. It might take a month or more though.
If the nail is not lifting now then it'll probably stay for a long while until a new one starts to grow under it.

I can't move my thumb without extreme pain, worse when it is bumped. Think it did lift up, you know where you cut the tip of your nail-even that part hurts. I don't even know how it happened, I was just taking something from a bag. Am not sure if it lifted. Thanks for your concern.

Okay, well I can't tell because.. I have blue nail polish on, when it got smashed, it caused a thick line of missing nail polish in the middle of my nail

You probably won't lose the nail. Just keep icing it. If the nail starts to turn blue take a picture of it and post it.

Leave it alone as long as you not damage the very end toward your inside habd it will grow a new one
