I wonder what the treatment would even be? I often find myself wondering what life would be like having loving and caring parents. Growing up sure was lonely, and whenever I hear people talk about worrying about or missing their parents I can't empathize. Probably going to skip their funerals because there is no way I can feign an acceptable amount of grief.
that's such a perspective I didn't have, thank you for sharing your reality. That's sad, you had to go through life so far without parents, models of how to be. We all have it different and if only we realized that when we communicated here, or real life, we'd be a bit more considerate.
there is so much in your story that would say a lot... why weren't they there, how you interpreted it, did you get another source of love and security, how your substitutes treated you? The way out seems to be committing to something better like making a vow to be better... e. g. "I'll have my love and never leave them", or whatever. That may feel impossible cause ya can't feel yet. But how to do that without the training and experience... needs research. One approach is to choose the best model of love and learn from them. in this case, you get to pick the best of the best rather than the often flawed parents we have where we learn wrong things and have to correct them. your case, got none.
I'm not sure but I'm looking. this guy... everyone... is selling something, but this explanation is excellent.

Some of the stuff that guy talks about seem familiar but I think he's more intent on growing his brand than actually helping people. "Authentic feelings" couldn't be more vague too.
Why weren't they there? I dunno... Mother preferred alcoholism and as long as I could remember my father was fairly indifferent to my existence. He tried to phone it in but to this day he speaks to me like I'm an infant instead of treating me like an equal. Someone else enters the room and his demeanor changes instantly. To sum it up, it always felt like they had kids on accident and tried their best to live their normal lives as if they didn't have any.
And I dunno, I'm fairly abnormal in some ways. I enjoy having friends but romantic relationships are very unappealing to me. Haven't ever connected with a girl and I feel they're just there to leech off of me in one way or another without giving anything in return. Can't recall a time I thought a girl's personality was more interesting than the average guy's.
It would be nice. But I'm not expecting to have the opportunity anytime soon.
And I'm not a snowflake, so I'm not one to whine and complain about stuff like that. I just carry on. (Or "persist" or whatever. ... You know what I mean.)
That's what I've done. It works great... until it no longer serves you. That happened to me as I moved into different work roles that required different emotional skills... and I started to suffer or fail. Also turned up in relationships. Otherwise, my "screwed up'edness" worked fine for me. I knew deep down I had self worth issues but they "felt like me"... as that is how I was conditioned to feel and accepted it.
hindsight is 20x20. finding a girlfriend sooner in life who challenged me, or possibly taking the struggles to introspect and therapy, may have helped solver it sooner. The "just carry on" is avoidance of the underlying emotional programming, which is another way of saying "screwing over" I got and accepted. I highly suspect that happens to others.
Lifes lessons... take from it what you will. Sadly, I can say, it's a B@#$@ Mother $@#4 to work out this stuff on your own because was so deeply embedded I couldn't see it. Thus, the patient keeps doing the samethings... getting same results. that's me, was me, working on me. GAG is my sounding board, girlfriend though is the one helping to see myself more clearly. Otherwise, I wouldn't recognize. Get a girlfriend... possible?
@lightbulb27 I have no objection to anything you said.
