When I started college, I started covering my scars with makeup. I don't think I could go to school and feel comfortable with my appearance if I didn't. I feel that I'm approached more, when I do wear lots of makeup (now), than when I didn't wear any (high school).

I feel like when I wear makeup to hide them, people can look at me and see ME instead of just seeing my scars and judging me for having them.

I don't think there is a simle answer to this question. First of all guys are attracted to confidence. I think that when a girl wears makeup, it does boost her confidence because it allows her to hide her flaws vs if she didn't have any on then she will be so self-conscious about it that she will not be herself. I think what the guys are trying to say is that if you were to be more confident without make up then you would be great. When they see a girl with a lot of make up it is kind of obvious that they are hiding something and that characteristic is unattractive.

I am not someone that has suffered from acne but I do have a flaw that cannot be covered and I can tell you that the difference in the responses was due to my confidence level. I know a lot of girls that don't need to wear makeup but it has now become their crutch even after their skin has cleared and that is really sad. I am not against make up because I know it can enhance someone's appearance (I always wear eyeliner) but it does become a problem when used to hide a problem.

These are kind of like what I have. The skin is smooth, but the marks are still present. How visible they are depends on your skin tone.

I see. But you have to remember, we were raised this way. We were basically told need to be beautiful and flawless, just like Barbie, so that seems (to us) like the most logical thing to do.

@Update: No, because they're seeing something that isn't purely you. That's like, let's say, staying in dark areas so that people find it a bit tough to see you but you look better because of the lighting. It's not really all of you. You're hiding part of yourself, and instead of hiding it, you need to be proud of EVERYTHING about you and show your beautiful face off the way it is.

Most guys on here are dilusional and/or they have never had a girlfriend. They often do not speak for the majority. As you can see from your own social experiment, guys do notice you more with makeup than without. It's not about whether they love you or not, it's about making the first impression. I do have to say though if you don't have many scars and you can still look good with minimal makeup then go for it.

Depends on how you are meeting. I prefer to start of as friends, so I already have feelings for the girl before I ask her out. I don't ask women out just because of the way they look. Don't get me wrong there does need to be at least some attraction. If you want a guy you have never met before, to ask you out, then yes glob on lots of make up.

I do agree with you when you say it's about making a good first impression, though. It's what I believe too. But seeing as neither of us are guys, and this question was targeted more towards them, I wan't to hear them out too.

You're right but I've been on this site for a year now and know that most of their answers are not relevant to the outside world. They say one thing but their actions will show differently. A lot of regular people will only say what seems like the right thing to say in order to avoid your feelings getting hurt and so others will like them better.

I do it too. When I consult someone on here, I typically give them a mood-boosting answer, and I try to say things that will make them feel better about themselves. I can't help it, because I find more satisfaction in answering someone and possibly giving them a better outlook on the situation than showing them a harsh reality. It doesn't mean I'm lying, just bending words to somewhat help them feel better about their situation.
