I exercise a lot and I eat a very healthy diet, but I could do with better sleep.
Despite meditation before bedtime and a full bedtime routine, I still struggle to get a good nights sleep.
I have a good mattress, and the bedroom environment is good, I make sure it isn't too warm, and reduce the lighting an hour before bed.
I also stay away from screens as much as possible before bed, and the ones I do use have blue light filters on them.
Yet sleep is still my number one thing affecting my health, poor sleep isn't good for diabetes either.
On an average night the actual sleep I get varies between 4 and 6 hours, generally in 2 sleep episodes a night.
If you've got any suggestions as to other things I could try, feel free to let me know.
Hmm... suggestions. Without knowing your habits or routines, hard to say. I'm one that doesn't need a lot of sleep. I have always been like that. 6-7 hours and I am fully charged and bouncing off the walls.
It has been that way for me since relatively young. I will say when my head hits the pillow, I'm out. I don't wake up. I barely move. Perhaps that is why 7 hours is enough for me.
What is the reason for the mid sleep interruption?
I'm not sure really, although I do get up and pee during that period of awakening, although I'm not busting to go or anything, I just take the opportunity to go.
That being said night-time peeing is a side effect of diabetes, if my levels aren't quite as low as they alt to be which is rare, so I don't think that's why I actually wake up.
I've always veen like this and rarely sleep straight through. I don't have any problem going to sleep, and I don't have any issue going to sleep again after I've woken for thr first time, but when I wake for the second time around 5 or 6 in the morning that is it I am wide awake.
Still I've never needed an alarm though lol
Have you tried tea before bed? My mum used to do that when she had issues from treatment. Although the treatment was very rough on her, tea did help. Considering the severity of cancer treatment, surprising it had any effect.
There are times where I will make a certain tea prior to bed. It just relaxes me. Another trick is I will take a nice hot bath. Not ideal sometimes but another thing that relaxes me.
Also, melatonin supplements have worked for others I know. Just an hour before bed. I have a friend that does it religiously and swears by it.
I tend to steer away from hot drinks before bed but it's always worth a tr. What type of tea do you think would be best, camomile?
I do have a hot bath every Sunday night, but I generally prefer showers, while it doesn't seem to make a difference, it again is always worth trying.
Melatonin supplements are probably something I should try.
I would say magnolia would be a good one. That is what my mum used. Chamomile is another good one. Give the melatonin a shot. As mentioned, I have a very close friend that swears by it. Takes it an hour before bed and she says she has never slept better. I haven't tried it.
Let me know! I'm genuinely interested to see if it has an effect for you. I hope it does. Good luck Daniel!
To get the best results, I'd try to watch for everything. It's mere discipline and organisation.
Sometimes it can be difficult due to work, studies and exams OR especially when you are a parent.
It's nature that your children come in the first place. You might need to get up very early and nurture them first, drop them to the kindergarten, pick up from school so that you neglect your own health. The biggest factor right here would be stress. And chronic stress affects the brain chemistry negatively and also in so many other things. Also, your eating habits get worse as you have so many daily tasks that you'd buy a quick unhealthy snack over and over.
So I'd do them all abovey if circumstances allow me to.
I'd make an appointment with the doctor regularly for check-ups and take his advice.
There are also vitamin supplements you can take in hectic situations where you have less time
I agree. Another user that has responded with sleep issues has discussed some things to help. I have a friend that swears by melatonin supplements to help with sleep. Thanks for your opinion!
You are welcome:)
You can always burn off the calories you eat, but I think in my case, making better choices about the food I eat would make the exercise more rewarding. I would certainly sleep better since there are times I like to have something to eat after 8 pm. I don’t think that ever helps my sleep pattern-which really affects your body’s ability to function at a high level.
Chatting with @DonkeyDan on his opinion about sleep... if you have advice to add for him.
Never saw a notification that you commented. So sorry! I am sleeping to go for the last couple of days. I am sorry he is having issues as well. I sleep best when I read for a half an hour or more for my head hits the pillow. Any eating creates issues as well (if within an hour of sleep time).
Thank you so much for MHO!
find ways to reduce stress for sure!
I do need to start exercising regularly as well, but I don’t have the motivation to!😭
I’m already working on the food😌
I think I get enough sleep😆
Stress would be my number one to address. Easy to stress yourself out. Definitely get with the exercise! You need to 🥵 to get healthy. Right @wonderbell99?
She hates that emoji. 😐
lmfao sure do!!😍😍 (she hates this one too)
and I definitely will, I just need a couple more weeks for my schedule to clear up a bit😭😭
It is tough because food is sooooo 🤤🤤🤤
@PrettyPriya
YES!!😋😋
what’s your favourite food?
@blackcupcake Hmm, I think my favourite non Indian cuisine would be Italian. There isn't much that I won't eat Italian-wise. 🥵🤤
@PrettyPriya what about Mexican!!! I love tacos😋
@blackcupcake Still like Italian better. However, we do have some good places in the city for tacos. I do enjoy them but not my fave.
@PrettyPriya screw tacos then, let’s go for pizza!😋😌
@blackcupcake Now we are talking! I had told @wonderbell99 about a really good way to make pizza using naan bread instead of dough. Much lighter. 🤤
@PrettyPriya share the recipe with me!😍
@blackcupcake So, you can use prepackaged naan bread (for convenience) and what I do is take a small bowl and put a fair amount of a good quality olive oil or similar. I put minced garlic, pepper, salt, onion powder and fresh chopped basil. You can use good old pizza sauce too!
I let the oil sit in refrigerator over night. So, spread oil (or sauce) on naan bread. Get favourite toppings. I like spicy peppers the most. Put toppings on and cover with favourite cheese (s).
I turn up oven as high as it can go and put them in until cheese starts to brown a bit. Viola. Done! Pizza that is much lighter than traditional dough. If you use oil and veggies for toppings, even better.
Sometimes I will slice tomatoes so you have that tomato flavour even though not tomato sauce. 🍕
that sounds delicious!
I just need to find naan bread somewhere in this city🥲😭 hahaha
Yep, not sure if you have it at grocery stores. Talking to some American friends, I guess they can get it pretty readily available. Not sure about where you live if the same.
Either way, even if you use regular dough, using the oil and tomatoes instead of sauce makes it a lot lighter.
we do have a grocery store that sells more international foods so I’ll check there! or if I get too desperate I’ll order it online like I do with Mexican candy all the time hahahaha
Omg you guys are the worst!! 😭😭
Jk, y’all are the best hahah
@wonderbell99 lmfao🤣❤️❤️❤️

Overall, if people would exercise more - and do the right kind of exercise (weight bearing and resistance), C&D would largely take care of themselves, and eliminate PART of the need for B.
I am back to sports regularly so that is more than enough exercise for me and it also makes me eat better as well but... I definitely could use some more hours of sleep, those are the ones that like to evade me and I am not the best at going for it either
but I should really try to sleep more than 4 to 6 hours every night
All of the above! Everyone knows that they probably need more exercise, which is essentially useless without the correct amount and type of fuel (ie food) also without adequate sleep or stress reduction, you are still not benefiting yourself. It takes a wholistic approach to wellness to see the best results of any exercise program.
I need to sleep more.
not going to happen though.
Exercise is increasing, admittedly I have had it easy for a month, last couple weeks were just runs with the girls.
Diet is good and I do a good bit of exercise (5km and 10km runs) but do need to ramp up the frequency and reduce overall times.
I eat far too much crap. That needs to stop. I guess it doesn't help that I live with someone who constantly buys things like chocolate, crisps and biscuits, when I've repeatedly told her to not waste money on those useless things.
I can agree with the bad influence from people you live with. While my SO is a healthy person, when we moved in together, I had to change some habits of his. He liked to indulge, as we all do sometimes.
However, some of the things were just simple changes to make things more healthy. Not that he was particularly eating terrible, just could be better in areas. Luckily, he took to changes well and is thankful in the end.
Thanks for the opinion!
Putting a better balance in my workout routine.
A couple weeks ago I would have said sleep. Because of late night call-outs I got used to sleeping in 2-4 hour stretches. Since I got married, I tasked it out so now I get a full night’s rest and some of the staff gets overtime pay. It’s been a couple years since I’ve had a week’s worth of a full night’s sleep.
There's a very interesting study out there. We all believe stress is something to avoid. But it actually all depends on the mind set. Seeing stress as a negative thing heightens your stress, and can cause physiological damage. However, seeing stress as a good thing, lowers stress and prevents damage.
Well if you really want to better your health
Then you must do all of them they're all tied together and to be honest you can't do one of them you have to do all of them at the same time
Right, but if there is one you aren't getting enough of. For example, maybe you are good with exercise and diet but could improve sleep habits and stress.
Well I would definitely try but if I'm not trying to improve my life I'm just trying to live it then I might try for a couple days and whatever happens happens but on the other hand let's say I make a goal to become very healthy I will make a goal for 30 days and I will make sure I do every single one of those in the right matter for 30 days just to see the add much of a difference to changes and I'm sure be quite significant
I mean I think for all of us I know for me I know the right things that I should be doing in the wrong things that I should not be doing that in order for me to succeed at something I have to put myself all the way into it I know to be healthy for the takes just like with anything else in this world you have to be committed 100% but with everyday life you don't have those opportunities to balance all that out and that's the part that sucks you don't have enough time in the day to balance it all out so sometimes you just go with the flow not unless for me I make it a 100% goal and that means that I'm not going to give everything else I do like the same time could I be put into it did I use the word no matter what we do in this life we always have to give something to get something that's how life is balanced if we can come in tune with that with ourselves our lives would be way better but no matter what we do we have to give up something to get something
Fucking all of the above, dammit. I need an overhaul on my life, lmao.
It's in the works. Coming out of break ups sucks.
Ah! Breakups do suck. Sorry to hear that. Hope things get better quick for you!
Aw, thank you! They're looking up and better every day. ♥️
That's the spirit! 😊
Definitely D. Stress is my biggest problem right now. It had been getting better lately, but it's been a lot.
Have a taco. 🌮
Always helps with the stress! Lol
More sleep wouldn't be a bad idea but I have a two year old so it's not happening.
Yep, I can understand that. I don't have kids, yet. However, I can only imagine as when I was younger I looked after two young boys. They wore me out and I am pretty high energy. Thanks for the opinion!
Find ways to reduce stress, had a lot of that at times in the last few years.
Agree completely. Last few years have been stress for a lot of people. Thanks for your opinion!
NP, i think a few of the above apply to me overall, just had to pick one. 😁👍
I should work on all of these 😶😂 I definitely need to reduce stress, that's a step one 😅
That would be number one for me too. Easy to get overstressed. Not good for the health either. Thanks for the reply!
More sleep more exercise! After work it's so easy to just boot up a game or a video and just relax until I go to bed. I should exercise more. I do like 30 minutes in the morning 30 minutes in the afternoon, but it doesn't feel satisfying
I do most of those above average. But I would say my area that needs the most improvement is eating. I need to eat more and healthier foods, although I est pretty healthy already.
I did pick eat better but with that I mean eat more. The food I eat is healthy - I just don't eat nearly enough, especially not with how much I move sometimes during work.
B, C, D and E- quit my bad habits like smoking cigarettes... And maybe the drinking Although that's not an every day thing, it was for awhile there..
I think the best thing that I could improve my health with is reducing the amount of stress in my life. I get over stressed with school and studying for exams a lot too 😕
All of the above, but I definitely struggle with stress a lot so that’s a big one! I try to go to the gym 3 times per week and eat healthy
Eat better and sleep more. And thankfully my condition is being better. My eyes bags are reducing!
@Bricealan Yeah I didn't slept well and overworked myself. I was so into my passion of writing and Music that I forgot about my health and skipped meals and reduced my sleeping time. Now I feel weak so I realized the importance of health. If I won't be healthy then I can't work either.
All of the above. I’m in self destruct mode which is not good
No, not good at all. Something going on? Important to maybe slow down life for a moment and collect yourself. Hope you are alright!
I get plenty of exercise but my diet could use an upgrade. I eat enough fruits and vegetables but eat too much junk.
They're all good... Eating better would help me the best. I could lose 10 pounds.
Well actually, to be honest, to be healthy you need to focus on all those things. One depends on the other
Honestly I think I just need to exercise more because I already do eat healthy and not really stressed out
They all work in conjunction with each other like links in a chain they help strengthen each other.
For myself more exercise & sleep would be a great asset.
I think everything is important. To be healthy is inseparable from nutritious food, adequate sleep, and exerciseI think everything is important. To be healthy is inseparable from nutritious food, adequate sleep, and exerciseA good physical fitness.
Do I get an option to vote all the above. Because, Health is dependent on many factors.
You can vote "Other" and list whatever you want. Reason why I included the option.
voted "get more sleep" too quickly because reducing stress would better my sleep.
I exercise daily in the a. m. . Trying to sleep and stay asleep at night. Seems like every two hours I wake up.
All. But I'm in pretty good health though. I just wish I was stronger
Definitely the stress
Or like the pressure that I put on myself
Easy to do that. I do it all the time. Not a good habit. Thanks for the opinion!
I need to stop doing drugs and drinking my mind is broken.
I need to do basically all of those things.
ALL of them, 'pretty'. ALL of them.
More sleep and stress reduction!
Eat... n then on 2nd id say exercise
I need sleep but yeah, no.
You need more marry me chicken I reckon. 😊
And maybe wine. 😐
I will keep my jokes/sarcasm to a minimum so you don't lose any.
honestly all of the above
all four-
I believe we are all like that at times. Thanks for the opinion!
Some yoga and healthy diet
Other, both food and exercise.
A , B and C. Need all three to be healthy.

Sometimes I feel the same way. I do my best. I do eat healthy and exercise regularly. However, there are just times (days or weeks) where I feel like I haven't done enough. Thanks for the opinion!
