pros:
- therapist will give causes behind your problems that you may had not realized caused them (this one will mindfuck you and is really interesting when they do bring up a possible cause)
- will help support or guide you torwards a path that can help you (relies a lot on you though)
- may give advice/suggestions
- legally cannot tell anyone shit you say unless if you plan to hurt yourself, others, a minor, or children are endangered (like saying you father beat you as a kid while having siblings that are minors, so they send CPS over to your house)
cons:
- a lot of them suck and won't be for you, which might turn you off (it can be a process finding the right one)
- can be expensive
- it can be uncomfortable
- some people might look down at you for being in therapy, but this won't happen often
- if trust is difficult for you, then it may take time to get to that point (which is fine)
just try it out if you want and see what it's like. if you don't like it after trying once or twice (or more), then stop. first session is awkward, but it passes
No, it usually doesn’t work. In some cases, it can make things even worse, if the therapist isn’t understanding of the situations that the client talks about.
Surely not all are like this.
I spoke to one over the phone today and her voice bored me to death... never again... with that therapist anyway lol
Getting decent therapy is always worth it.
Also, it’s annoying when people put a price against something that should within limits should be free.
If you need it then yes look in to what is available in your area and what costs are, if there is any volunteer network.
I spent about 8 years at a counselling centre ran by volunteers who gave up our free time to help with counselling, outreach work, sexual health etc.
you may also find various levels of resource online as well.
Like a lot of things if you don’t try you will never know & there is nothing wrong with seeking help from a professional or even a friend or someone you don’t even know.
Thank you kindly for the MHO’s.

Yes, very. It's also usually available free of charge or on a sliding scale in most places, if in the US, it's covered under Medicaid as well as regular insurance. I'm sure there are available options that are reasonable.
