Not sure which one you’re referring to, but I have issues with all three, so I’ve done some pretty extensive research. Most of it is second or third hand, so it’s just something to consider.

I’ve had a slipped disk and osteoarthritis in my neck for about 10 years now. Neck surgery may sound more serious, but I have know several people now who have gone through very successful neck procedures that have completely solved their issues. The most recent one was about 3 weeks ago. His healing is about 2 months with extremely limited physical activity. If mine continues to get worse I would consider neck surgery.


Middle back is one I have a lot of issues with, but I’ve had success in chiropractic and physical therapy to manage pain. I don’t know how successful the surgeries are.


Lower back I would highly suggest against unless it is seriously impacting your day to day life and hindering your ability to work or the things you enjoy. From what I can tell it’s 50/50 shot. And each surgery afterwords decreases the likelihood of ever being successful and drastically increases risk. My mom went though 3 before she gave up and decided to just live with sciatica. Her recovery was 3 months+ from each one.

I know a lot of people who had back surgery. It may not happen to you but for the ones that I know they had to have surgery multiple times for one reason or another. They all had different doctors and they were different ages. The doctor said my wife needs surgery on her back but she refuses and I agree with her. One friend ended up having surgery on his back 8 times over the course of 2o years

I did not have it. You would need someone by your side 24×7 to take you to the washroom, your bed must have an additional medical mattress that comes for spinal surgeries, your bed must have multiple layers of bedsheets as it would be difficult to change a bedsheet so it would be better to remove the one that's unclean. Incase a headraise is not permitted post surgery then you'd need someone to feed you lying down. Post five days you'd need physiotherapy to make your muscles live again to help start moving your limbs, post 14 days you'd need a walker support to stand up. Gradually you'll learn how to walk with a walker, avoid using wheelchair so that your muscles regain strength quickly, take protein rich and calcium rich diet to strengthen bones and muscles. Be confident. Two months and you'd start walking without a walker.

You would also need to wear lumbosacral spine support belt for a month or so. All the best.

Any surgery carries a risk. My Dad has had many back surgeries. He has so much scar tissue it causes similar pain as he had before the surgery. My friends grandpa died from an infection while in the hospital recovering from a back surgery. The more money and connections you have the safer it is.

My wife is a physical therapist and sees a lot of back patients. About a third of them have bed outcomes. Also, my personal physician had back surgery but he went to a neurosurgeon instead of an orthopedic surgeon.

sorry- I mean bad outcomes. They are worse than when they were before the surgery.
