I say if you are in a job that leads you to needing therapy: you are in the wrong job.
Protect your mental health. No job is worth a breakdown.
(Nothing wrong with therapy. I recommend it for everyone just to have a middle person to talk through things. Not necessarily for mental illness purposes.)
I had a job that paid 140k per year with great benefits. IT was a shit job that was nothing but abuse. Abuse from staff, abuse from management, abuse from customers. I took all kinds of shit for things that happened before my watch but everyone was pissed off about and expected me to clean up. One day, my boss sent me an email which pushed me too far. The next morning, i left my key and badge on my desk with a note saying "resign." Customers were backed up waiting for me. My boss was screaming mad.. Boss sent the police to my house to tell me I would be arrested for not showing up. I explained to Deputy that I was "at will", had no contract and could not be arrested for a civil issue. Deputy left, but two hours later came back to my house holding the cell phone with my boss on the phone. I said, "no thank you." and the Deputy sped off. It was best move ever. I had a lot of money and didn't have to take the nasty shit.
Yeah very much so. When you consider how many hours you spend at work, how many times socialising, how much sleeping.
Also certain job have more stress, some people have different levels of managing stress.
Work can deliver huge shocks at times, then there is uncertainty of keeping a job etc.
Then you have interpersonal dynamics within work, from narcissism, bad managers, bullying, etc.
very much so
I think it does especially if you don’t enjoy what you do. That can lead to major physical and emotional problems. It’s important we keep checking if we are passionate and happy with our job, if not then look for a way to adapt or change it.

Yess definitely especially if there is more competition and lack of intrest and lack of desire to do it... so instead of having fun and enjoying it people get tired and frustrated affecting not only thoer mental health but every single aspect of their life...
Fuck yes it can. During the worst of the pandemic I had to work 7 days a week after 15 months of this my mental health was shit. I was angry all the time, 0 patience, and would go off on someone 2 or 3 times a day. It was fucking misery. My work schedule is better now but my patience with others still has not came back. I don't like being a grumpy fuck so I am actively working on regaining my former Mental Health.
Yes it does. I am usually very easy going. My boss is very me I manipulative… I was very stressed out the first 2 years and lost lots of weigh and lost sleep due to the anxiety she places on us.
so yeah… it sure can.
I worked at the complaint line for what is basically a Comcast clone for a decade.

So yes job stress and burnout is very real.
Oh without a doubt
I was working somewhere for 4 years and got treated like utter shit and I was a wreck for so long.
Yes it can heard lot of people suffer because of stress in a work place
Absolutely! Every job has different stressors. Summer related to our coworkers, somehow related to clients and even our family can be affected by the stress of our work affecting home life.
Any activity that requires use of mind will affect its health, If things are going good then in a positive way, if they are not then in a negative way.
Yes absolutely can affect your mental health. Especially when working in such a toxic environment most days and mangers who need to learn how to treat staff with some manners. The way people are spoken to is appalling. It costs nothing to be nice.
Everything in life can affect a person's mental health... Even something as simple as a two-hour difference in sleep.
We are a fragile lot.
If you don't breathe for a minute, work will fk your mind up.
Wait--something you spend most of your waking hours doing can impact your mental health?
I'm shocked! SHOCKED!!!
Absolutely. Work can make you depressed, anxious and stressed.
Yes because I've heard that if someone is unhappy with their job it can cause them to develop depression
Totally. My first job brought me down. The current one makes me happy.
I was in the army for 6 and a half years, amd that certainly did a njmber on my mental health. 2 operantional tours of iraq and 1 operantional tour of Afghanistan will really fuck you up.
