Which one is better for a sports competition hydration or food intake?

Or both as both are important? Can you have energy to last at the end if you dotn eat anything before starting the competition but you do hydrate?

Lets say it is a 2 hr competition with 2 minutes rest between each competition instructor (4 instructors). Here you can hydrate and eat something quick like a snack or banana.
