Why is one armpit smellier than the other?

Does this happen to you: I find that one armpit will be more pungent than the other. Sometimes, even after scrubbing and showering, I will have to redo one armpit. Anyone know why this occurs?

The smell of sweat is determined by genetics and the microbial composition of your skin. (Fun fact there's people who barley smell when sweaty. It's common with East Asians for example.) Assuming it's not just you perceiving them as different it might be be that the microbial composition of your armpits is slightly different from each other. I could also imagine one armpit having less sweat glands what could affect the odour. Besides that it could be that one armpit is affected by some fungal infection making it smell worse than the other.

Really? I never noticed that. I think both my armpits smell pretty much the same.

I noticed it. I usually don’t smell bad, only when I’m stressed.. but sometimes I have my left armpit that smells while the other doesn’t.
I think it’s due to the basic asymmetry of our body has, we seem symmetric but we are not. Left and right parts are different and probably there’s some difference also in glands composition…

ok, so much for that idea. No two body parts are exactly the same, and armpits are no exception. You may have one armpit that just produces sweat a little more than the other.

Maybe one is more easier to reach that other. You know, we have one easier side to reach and the other one is a bit difficult to reach. Like that.
