Doesn't really matter: Just assume all gyms have herpes & monkeypox poo everywhere that you can't see. Clean all equipment before using it.
But yeah, if the gym staff and customers let people use gym equipment without cleaning up after themselves it's more gross than a gym where that happens.

That says something about the gym USER... not the gym. Was he done? Did he walk off and leave it?
Anyway, there are usually cleaning bottles and rags all over the gym to spray and wipe down the equipment before you use it. Easy fix.
