First and foremost this post is me purely seeking helpful advice and encouragement- I’m not wanting any negativity or judgement so please scroll if you wish to be rude.
So I’m a college student. Currently on a roller coaster of emotions trying to constantly not fail and to effectively manage my time to get through. My biggest issue is I believe I’m depressed. I can’t sleep most nights and usually watch YouTube and listen to music until 5 am and go to sleep for a couple hours before I have to go to class and then I’m exhausted and so on. But I feel depressed I feel discouraged and lonely etc. I have little to no joy or motivation. I’m not suicidal or anything but I do need some advice. I’m too embarrassed to talk to my parents and they wouldn’t understand. I just waste my time and try to distract myself from the misery I feel. Does anyone understand or have any suggestions? I could really use some advice. I’m really struggling and I don’t know how to cope and I feel terrible plus I feel I’m about to fuck up my life with my grades. So again any advice or coping skills? Thanks
I hope you don't take this as negativity, but if you are depressed then there are two possible reasons: 1. Things in your life you have no power over and CANNOT change. 2. Things in your life you have power over and CAN change.
From what you wrote, I would identify some things that you CAN change that are shown to reduce depression are:
1. Reduce time on electronics. Don't watch YouTube or anything like that for hours on end. Read books. Draw. Talk to people. Hang out with people. Make something. Create.
2. Get proper rest. Go to sleep.
3. Get proper exercise. At least 30 minutes a day, but an hour is better. Two hours or more is probably a bit much, unless you really like it or are seeking a career as an athlete or physical fitness oriented profession.
4. Get proper nutrition. You didn't say anything about this but in my observations almost everyone I see has a somewhat unhealthy diet or at least a diet that could be improved. Reduce sugar, trans fats, saturated fats, and processed food. Increase fiber, raw foods, protein, and healthy fats. Fresh fruit and vegetables for half of what you eat every day. 3-5 L (3-5 quarts) of water a day. No soda.
People don't realize but these simple things can really change your mood and life around. Exercise, sleep, nutrition, hydration.

Take 6 melatonin I took 6 melatonin last night before bed 10 mg for each dissolvable melatonin took 6 of them which was 60 mg
Melatonin can’t Kill but I’m sure too much might not be good for you but it isn’t gonna do anything bad to you not gonna cause you to seize up or have a stroke or a coma seen a video if I remember correctly the person that overdosed on a bottle of melatonin Nothing bad happened to that person.
I'm curious. Are you going to college out of state? Is that part of what causes your depression?
It is a hard adjustment to be away from the people that bring us comfort.
And the workload is hard. It takes time to figure out how to balance the load.
You could also be burntout. You need to find ways to just put it behind your for a weekend or something or else it will keep getting worse.
Seek out therapy they can help you find ways to cope with this
Have you seen a therapist or a counselor? If not that is where you should start.

I'm really, really sorry this is happening to you. That sucks. It happens to so many people and I'm not telling you that to in any way dismiss your feelings -- the opposite actually: you're not alone in what you're going through. The loneliness, depression, grades, sleeping... you're not alone.
As for advice, I'd offer three thoughts.
First, I beg you to find your school's clinic and talk to someone. In my experience they won't (? can't?) talk to your parents, so what you bring there stays there. They can help you with meds that can help you sleep (and the sleep thing is cyclical: the less sleep you get, the worse you feel and so on and so on) but they can also help you talk through some of the depression and identify if maybe further counseling might be warranted.
Second, go hang out places. Wherever you think is fun. Theater. Library. Gym. Pool. Activity center. Doesn't matter as long as its safe and you think it's fun. People will eventually come up to you. Maybe you won't like most of them. But you might meet one person who can provide a little ray of light in your life, enough to light the road more than what you have now.
Finally, and this is the easy one: figure out what little things in your life bring you joy or you even just like. A fresh cup of coffee. A pair of socks just out of the dryer. Strawberry shampoo. Opening a pack of sticky notes. Whatever those things are. Seek those things out and enjoy them. Start stacking them together and the little joys can start to build up enough to give you the momentum to overcome the storm clouds. It doesn't make it all go away (and that's not the point) but it brings sunshine into your day.
Again, I'm really sorry you're experiencing this.
Best wishes...
In life some people have a lot on their place & some people have a buffet. As for life it isn’t easy but then again it isn’t hard. In life I always say you should never give up, you should never give in & most of all you should keep moving forward no matter what. In life I always say if you never try you will never know & as for you never stop trying.
In life every journey starts with one small step & as for you step after step your writing your own success story & a wonderful one it will be. In life some say there is a light at the end of the tunnel & as for that light it’s not a freight train so you don’t have to worry.
A wonderful person you are & a wonderful person you will always be. A beautiful person you are & a beautiful person you will always be.
In life some of us stress & in life some of us get depressed. In life sometimes we have a hard time finding our way & in life sometimes we get lost. In life sometimes we feel alone but alone we never will be & I want you to remember that.
Better days will come my friend & you’ll be fine & in the meantime do your own thing & keep on doing it because you’re doing GREAT & I want you to remember that.
You made a friend today.

I can truly empathise how you feel and what you’re going through. This happened to me when I lost my mum. But it didn’t hit me until a good twelve months after she had gone. It felt like I was in a maze with high walls, and every time I turned a corner I would just hit another wall.
I was always feeling tired, I couldn’t be bothered to do anything, as I live alone there were certain things I had to do. But I had to force myself to do any simple task or tasks. But I never once thought about taking my own life, and I’m pleased you don’t want to either. It would be such a waste and it’s not just that, it’s people you leave behind. And they would have no idea why.
Mine couldn’t have happened at worst time as we had just entered the pandemic, and no one could go anywhere. So I turned to a hobby, I loved as a kid (although a costly hobby). I could have it delivered to my home and I slowly made a start. It took a long time because i would get easily frustrated if I couldn’t do it, even though it was relatively easy. But I would set myself a goal and try and stick to it. And eventually I started to enjoy what I was doing. Then everything started to lift, I felt happier, I was sleeping better.
Now that covid, is getting better, I’m going out more which is something else I stopped doing. I hope this can be of some help to you, It’s not nice to go through alone. People who haven’t had depression, just don’t understand what a person is going through, they can be to quick to judge. Have you any brothers or sisters you can talk to?, or relatives, it may help if you can’t approach you’re parents. I truly hope you feel better soon, anything else, just ask.
This is very normal, when you’re stressed or joyful.
This helped me this might not work for you. But I can give my opinion.
First things first.
You can do grades, life and anything only when you have a body.
Let’s please concentrate on that first. Your body should function well to perform anything in a day, either you play or act or anything or work to focus. Nothing is end of the world except your body function well. We should first fix that. Here is how you can help that.
So I’m not sure what’s stressing you, but be strong, try to eat in time, rest well, even in day or when ever you get time, get a power nap. Don’t use a lot of your energy anywhere. Don’t spend too much time on grade or in place where you continuously think of things that stress you, Understand you don’t have to achieve anything over night. Take time do this things dividing it to small steps. Please try not to over think. Watch comedy, take fresh air. Please take regular breaks. Eat well, try and sleep well.
Remember everyday is a new day.
Please write things on a paper and stick them out on the wall and try to follow it. Keep yourself of reminders on what to do according to time and organise your time. Make reminders and try to follow them.
I hope it will help.Take a few days off school work, find some friends, have a good time. Find something to do in your free time that accomplishes something. I've been through what you're going through multiple times and what got me out every time was winning at something. You sound like someone who needs a win.
It could be small like making a new friend, it could be big like rising up the ranks of a club. Change your perspective. Depression is about feeling trapped, like there's no way out of whatever bothering you.
Sometimes you need to shake things up a bit and do things for you. I hope that made sense
READ THE BIBLE AND PRAY GIRL!!! I've been a Christian since I was born, and starting a year or two ago I have felt EXTREME comfort in reading the Bible every night and praying (pray about depression and problems). Maybe try to get more sleep and eat oatmeal with apples and greek yogurt for breakfast. If you are too embarrassed to talk, then maybe write a note to your parents? Another thing help is record yourself saying why you are depressed and what you feel, then play it back the next day. I am so sorry that you have to deal with this, but I feel you. Stay strong!!! 😭💗🥰📕⛪
Yeah I understand. I think you need someone whose a professional to help you. I get it. It’s hard to talk to some people sometimes. It’s not that they don’t love me. But yeah. Trust me. I get it.
I have been pretty depressed, lonely, and just. The emotions I have felt before have been pretty bad.
I just me personally. Take the good days and good moments as they come and enjoy them.
Prayer has also helped me though a lot. Both praying for myself and others praying for me and God.
God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirt have been my refuge even on the worst of days.
I have been through unbearable torment before. Absolutely horrendous
Sorry for what you’re going through. I’m not sure if you’re already exercising regularly, but if not I’d suggest it. Regular cardio does wonders for mood, in my opinion. Plus it’ll help you get to sleep at night. Better sleep leads to a better mood.
It can be easy to feel overwhelmed in college, especially when you’re knee deep into your major with a few semesters to still go. Try not to stay up looking at your tablet or smart phone. The light basically signals to your brain to stay awake. I’m not saying don’t watch YouTube at night, just be aware of the effects of technology and LED screens on your sleep.
Hang in there.
I feel your pain I too was that way in my college years. Stress out because of assignments nobody to talk to. One of the things I found while I was going to college is there's a student health center. That health center is part of your tuition. There are people you can talk that can give you better advice on what to do. If you're at a big university that has counseling programs for students that are becoming psychiatrist or psychologist. Some of their assignments as grad students are to listen and help. If there's is any fee it is based upon your income as a student. Sometimes it can be free. If you have any questions or any other concerns you may dm.
Good luck with your studies. We usually have depression when we don't like an outcome of our life. And the best way to change it would be through physical change. So do whatever would help promote & regulate good chemical responses in the body. It could be any constructive activity. Really depends on what works for you. There's a general blueprint for humans that zeitgeist highlights. Then there are the things that are more tailored toward the individual that they only find out through experiencing it.
I can tell you a few things.
- learn when to stop working. Don’t be afraid to take time for yourself.
- hit the gym and start exercising
- take something called “Ashwagandha” for your anxiety. It’s a natural supplement that reduces the cortisol in your bloodstream. It got me through law school.
- don’t force things. Figure out how you learn and interact with the content in that way.
Talk to someone professional like a shrink.
Stuff like this is what could get you suicidal or at risk adapting darkness.
I see this as your spititual journey have started but not a religious journey.
If you are not mentally ready yet just ask to be allowed to just be a a humanbeing until you truly are ready and have seen all.
The symbol of ying and yan is supposed to be darkness down and light up.
Why? Because the first thing you will experience is darkness.Go see your on campus counselor. This is nothing new and they will have written strategies which you can choose too or not the recommendations.
Melatonin may help for sleep. You can get it off the shelf at any drugstore. Just lying in your bed with your eyes closed can also help. If you don't have the self control to do that then find something that keeps your eyes closed like an elastic hairband or one of those sleeping masks. Also tire yourself out during the day. Make yourself look forward to falling into bed. I doubt you'll need all of these things, but all of them should work to some degree.
Come up with plan to get your grades on track, what’s distracting you from achieving success in school?
I waste my time listening to people , roll it down to me anytime in the inbox i might give a few suggestions if not at least listen to you 😌😜
What's the problem if you're depressed, you just need a professional help, that's all !!
Depression is an illness which attacked the majority of people in world lately.
So it's normal.
You're fine!!
I would try asking someone (maybe the guidance counselor) at the school if there is a school therapist that you can talk to.
Yeah, I have been feeling the same.
I’m trying to find a solution, hopefully someday.
