How long do cold sores stay this red for?

I’ve had this cold sore since Saturday and the redness was only in the top corner of my lip and within 2 days it was all the way across my half of my top lip. When will the redness and itching go down. I can also feel the bottom of my lip itching now too. Is this normal or is it just a really bad one? I’ve only gotten this one my whole life. So I’m very new to this. And can’t stop worrying that something else is wrong. Or that I’m doing something wrong. My dad said it should be clearing up by now but it’s just spreading more it seems like.

Why is it getting worse though? Could I be doing something wrong. I don’t touch it at all. I use q-tips to apply the cream. And put the cream on every 3-4 hours or when it starts itching bad.
