Yes, they can. However, your shrink can also prescribe you:
--"Vyvanse" (Lisdexamfetamine) for ADHD (a legal form of amphetamine, it causes weight loss and/or offsets the weight gain of other antidepressants)

--Wellbutrin (Buproprion HCl), called "the MANLY antidepressant", because IIRC it is the only one more men take than women. Other antidepressants more women take than men. Apparently it has a negligible effect at worst or helps with weight loss at best. These results vary from man to man, just like the antidepressants all too often do.

It should be noted that often depressed people, men especially, have ADHD as the underlying cause of their depression.

It depends on the person and which kind of meds you're taking. Weight gain, hormone imbalances, losing periods and appetite, are some of the common side effects
