I personally use 12 inch long strings of floss (no floss picks), and use new strings each time due to the shredding of the floss that takes place. But washing and reusing sounds very sensible.

You can save even more by using a waterfloss filled with hot water, a few drops of lugols iodine and a cap of 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide. It's superior to floss. It's all I ever use and if done right after a meal, it will blast out any debris before it even has a chance to settle.
