I’ve had a large ganglion cyst for 5 years sticking out my knee joint and the doctor says it’s not serious enough for surgery what should I do?

I currently have one in my left wrist, and it's been there since late January. Not really large, I'd say it's a bit smaller than a pea.

They will usually go away on their own, but can take a really long time.

Other options: They drain the fluid by sticking a needle in. However, they will most likely come back as they're just taking out the fluid; not the root.

Surgery, but that's a last resort. A cyst can press on nerves and cause pain. If you're not in intense pain, there's no need for surgery. However having it for five years and wanting to get rid of it, you can probably opt for surgery.

It's just a watch and wait thing.

They'll only operate if it's painful or restricting movement. Either find a more sympathetic doctor or pay for surgery.
I'd stress both it's causing pain and affecting your quality of life. Those are the two key phrases that they want to hear.
