DO you suffer from migraines?

... And have you ever had an optic migraine? When I had one weeks, ago, suddenly I'm getting small twinges of pain in my head, which I think began with that migraine.

Yes, I do regularly suffer from real migraines, although less than when I was young. Around 19 years of age my first painful migraine was an optic one with scintillating white outward moving light spots which moved slowly to the outer rim of my vision. The headache followed these vision troubles in the left side of my head. This happened now and then, not very often. These last years I sometimes only have the scintillating effect without a real headache following.

That’s what I had, only I saw zigzagging lines on the outer peripheral vision of my left eye, then the headache came later.

My daughters (two) both say they get migraines. bu that was when they were younger. The oldest still gets headaches but she thinks it's because of the light of her computer. I always thought I had stress related headaches, and question now on whether or not these might have been migraines as well.

It's not always easy to determine whether someone suffers from real migraines or not. Headaches can be the result of watching too closely some screen during long periods, or stress, or sudden drop in blood pressure, or on the contrary a high blood pressure, a mental or emotional shock, etc. Many possible origins are possible. Still, one of the signs of a real migraine is a higher sensitivity to noise, light and smells. Of course the particularity of the headache located only in one half of the head, although some people may have both sides affected. There's also what's called dyspeptic state resulting in vomitting. The latter happened to me often during a migraine crisis, but now at my age not anymore.

A trick I learned long ago from one of my clients suffering from migraines, particularly when waking up in the morning, is drinking a cup of strong coffee. Worth to try.

What triggers a migraine crisis is not obvious, because that can be anything, even for instance girls having or nearing their periods. Maybe you should ask the advice of a good doctor to be sure.

On the scientific side there seem to be an interesting connection between migraine, asthma and particular forms of skin rashes. These are all particular and complex forms of sensitivity. The odd part of these three medical conditions is when a patient seems to have cured completely from one of them, odds are high to then starting suffering from one of the other two affections.

I've had migraines since I was in my twenties. In my family it's hereditary. My mom used to get them, my sister gets them, so does my daughter and son. I get them so bad that it makes me vomit

I suffer from migraines. I get 37 Botox injections in my head, neck and shoulders. I even have them place any leftovers in my TMJ. I have been on Botox every 12 weeks for 8 years. It has dropped my migraines to zero per month. Also an ocular migraine is caused by fluctuations in female hormones.

Yes- and if that IS what you've got, then you have my sympathy. A lot of people misuse the term, thinking that it applies to any nasty headache; that's not the case. The easy test is to picture an automatic shotgun (say, the H&K CAWS or the Pancor Jackhammer) being shoved, barrel-first, down your throat, and fired until it clicks dry. If the first thing you think of is anything other than "blessed relief", it's not a migraine. If the first thing you think of is a prolonged series of screams, that's a cluster headache.

No, I fortunately do not suffer from migraines. I have had a few, caused by being severely dehydrated out in the hot sun, but I have learned about that and haven't had a migraine in years.

My pain was from the back of my head, on the base off the skull. But before that, I saw zigzag lines on the peripheral vision of my left eye. It was like someone had taken their finger ands smudged the vision there outside my view.

So, it was just a tension headache. I get those too, but rarely.
