I broke my wrist. Should I leave the sling on when I ice it or take it off?

I broke my wrist once. I went to the emergency room and they put a temporary cast on it that went all the way to my shoulder.
When I finally got a real cast, three weeks had passed.
So, none of the doctors told me to put ice on it period.
Your wrist needs a cast if it is broken and you said it is. Why are you only wearing a sling for a fracture?
Go and get a proper cast on it or you might mess it up worse!
I was given Norco's for one week, then a strong prescription ibuprofen after that.
They leave the cast in for 6 weeks, THEN you wear the sling.

I misspoke I mean splint not sling lol. And I went to the ER Saturday cause that’s when I broke it and they put it in a splint and gave me prescription for Tramadol, it’s been helping with the pain. Am currently in the waiting room to see the ortho doc. They ought to put it in a cast today.

Hi! I am so glad you are at the doctor's office now. I am hoping they will put a cast on it. However, they may ask if you want the surgery to align the bones so they'll be like before you broke it. If you so gave surgery, the gave to rebrake your wrist to fix it. This has a 6 week recovery time.

I wanted the surgery but the doctor said I was too old (61). So now I limp along with my broken wrist. I had a cast, but no surgery, so it's still broken.

The purpose of the sling is to immobilize your wrist and reduce pain and inflammation by elevating your wrist above your heart level.

If your icing your arm, then the sling could be removed temporarily, but your wrist needs to be casted as soon as possible.

Depends on what you mean by "broken"
I think maybe its better to keep it in the sling, if you are able to ice it easily that way.

I mean I went to the ER, got an X-ray and got told it’s broken 😭 also I wanted a picture of the X-ray and it’s definitely fractured
