Anybody have an idea on why I keep heavy coughing and coughing up bloody phlegm? Trying to avoid a misdiagnosis... kind of ironic.. but any ideas?

Thanks everyone. I went to the er and nothing viral, no blood clots or anything but I have an enlarged thyroid. I needed to have an ultrasound done anyway so that's what I'm doing.

Typically that's going to be bronchitis the large majority of the time. If a secondary infection occurs, that might develop into pneumonia. If you’ve recently traveled to Africa or spent a lot of time around illegal aliens maybe tuberculosis. As you get more severe, you’re getting into things like pulmonary oedema which can have many causes, but is most typically associated with heart disease. If you’re a covid vaxer, that might be a more real world concern for someone your age. The covid vaccines are well known now to cause pericarditis/myocarditis. Naked RNA in the bloodstream can also cause to blood clots. Other worse possibilities would be things like pulmonary embolism typically causes by blood clots in your lungs or possibly taking anticoagulants for said blood clots, but you know if that were the case if you were taking them. You can also throw lung cancer in there as a possibility. But like I said, it’s typically bronchitis.

Lung cancer, COVID, bad pneumonia, I could think of another ten without trying taking long. Pulmonary embolism is a good one. That's pretty fatal untreated. Tuberculosis, Systic fibrosis, COPD, excessive use of blood thinners, vasculitis, sometimes a lupus complication, congestive heart failure, obstruction in airway or lungs, chemical irritation/inhalation burns.

We can start getting more obscure... Ebola. Contamination with hydrofluoric acid...
