Does your body have any replacement parts? Was it worth it?

I have an artificial hip. It works almost as good as the original equipment and most of the pain is gone.

Not replacement parts…I do have a few screws and some metal in my left angle/leg.
Surgeon said I might need another surgery some day…so…I want to do what I can while I am still able to walk.
i hear people say../when I retire I want to do this and that.. I don’t want to wait till when I get too old to live life.

I had my hip replaced at 40 because I had hip dysplasia. It was the best decision I have ever made. Then last November, I had a partial knee replacement, and for the first time in 40 years, my knee does not hurt. Then in 2019, I had a cervical fusion of C3-C5. Then in 2017, I had brain surgery to implant a VP shunt for hydrocephalus.

Wow you're a warrior. I don't know if a lot of people would be able to endure what you've had done. My mom has had a few surgeries as well (stent in 2001, mastectomy in 2021 and thyroidectomy in 2023 early this year). She's courageous just like you. Both my mom and dad are (but lucky for him at 70, he hasn't had any terminal anything as far as I know).

Some people have to do this so they can live longer.

We are lucky to be living in a time that has this technology. In the old days the doc would give you a handfull of pain pills and tell you to stay off it. I am glad you are doing so good.

I had to get the ligaments in my shoulder replaced, reconnected? Anyway it's all made out of screws, hooks, and dacron fiber now. I have to look out if any fibers poke through the skin, because then the mesh broke and I'd likely need another surgery

I had hernia repair and they used a kevlar patch. I d;ont know if it would stop a bullet.

Doubtful, those are like single layers. If you've ever gotten say a IIIA vest, those soft plates are at least 1/4" thick. Maybe if you get gut shot by a subsonic round or something you'd be fine. Fine as in no penetration, but the impact would still hit like a truck. Probably dislodge the patch too.

A couple of years later I saw what the patch looked like. I thought it was like the little blowout patches we used on our bike tires. This thing was 3 inches by 6 inches. No wonder it hurt like hell

Yeah, mine is on the front and back of my shoulder, as I tore all three ligaments, I saw one of those patches you're talking about kinda external like on a guy who did get gut shot.

That must have been a really nasty hernia.

it was a double hernia.

Yes, a stent - thanks to a motorcycle accident in 2007. I am just fine now, thanks for asking - it was touch and go for a bit there.

Nope. Just stitches so far. Thankfully. But I think that hip replacement was the smartest and bravest thing you could have done. Well done! Glad to hear it is working out well and you are having minimal pain. 🥰

Yes, sometimes if I bend over it cramps up but it is mostly good.

Good to hear that. I've been lucky so far. Except for some bridgework in my mouth that replaced several teeth (everyone in my family has horrible teeth), I have all my original parts.
