Anyone here that’s been on the depo shot? If so how long did it take you to get pregnant after?
I was on the depo shot for 6 months, was due for my next shot this April (2023) and then decided to stop. Since then my husband and I (we know it might take a while) have been trying for a baby but not getting our hopes up or anything. However since it’s July now, I’m starting to get a little worried.
My period came back maybe a week after I stopped taking Depo, and it’s been regular ever since- there have been a couple new period symptoms I’ve had but besides that they are normal just like before depo.
For those that have been on depo how long did it take for you to get pregnant? I’m getting worried that I might be infertile but I’m hoping the reason we haven’t gotten pregnant yet is because we are just trying too soon.

There is a wide range for how long it can take to conceive after Depo Provera, but on average, it takes about 12-18 months. Some key things to keep in mind:
• Different women have different experiences. Some conceive within a few months, while others take over 2 years. There is no "normal" timeline.
• Your age, overall fertility, and health play a role in how quickly you conceive after stopping Depo.
• The 6-month timeframe you were on Depo is relatively short, so that may be in your favor in terms of a faster return to fertility.
• Depo can take a while to fully leave your system, even after you stop the shots. This can impact your fertility for some time.
• Your periods returning does indicate your hormones are regulating again, but ovulation may not yet be optimal for conceiving.
• It typically takes healthy couples without fertility issues about 12 months to conceive. You're still within that "normal" timeline.
• You're not infertile - Depo is likely just impacting your body's ability to conceive, which is common. This will improve with time off the shot.
Try to be patient and stay hopeful. Continue trying and tracking your cycle. If you reach the 12-18 month timeline and still haven't conceived, seeing a reproductive endocrinologist could be beneficial to rule out any issues. But for now, I'd say you're still within the range of a normal timeline after Depo.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helps set your mind at ease a bit! Wishing you the very best of luck conceiving.
I’ve never been on the depo shot before however it did take my friend couple months before she got pregnant. She tracked her cycle and made sure to check pattern in ovulation and period.
Are you sure that your husband doesn't have a fertility problem?
I’m not sure, I was planning to wait a couple more months before we went in and got checked since they’d probably assume it was because of the previous birth control
In most cases, there is not a fertility problem.
