Can you ice skate?

I tried once and couldn't skate a foot without falling

I lived in chicagoland when finishing my bachelors and there was an open pond that froze over so hard a ZAMBONI was used to keep it smooth for skating.

It was great fun. And though. you'd think skating on a single blade is hard, it's only a little bit harder on your ankles and barely more difficult that roller skating. Felt great to be outdoors in the cold and working up a sweat. Quite beautiful. Try rollerblading. It's a skip and hop from that to ice skating.

Yup, learned when I was 7. Skated with Bobby Orr growing up.

@exitseven The nice thing, it didn't go to his head, he still had time for his hometown and family.

@OfMiceandMen Yes, He lives on Cape Cod and a local guy somehow got to take his son to his home and meet him. This poor guy somehow got confused and went on the wrong day. He got to Bobby Orrs house and he rings the doorbell. Bobby Orr answers the door and the guy introduces himself and Bobby Orr says that he was scheduled to come next week. The guy apologizes and tells him he will come back. Bobby Orr tells the guy it was okay and he would, be happy to spend some time with him and his son. The guy spent a couple of hours listening to hockey stories and just stories about life. He said Bobby Orr was a real gentleman.
I think that pro athletes have responsibility to hold themselves to a higher standard and be role models to kids.

@exitseven Yep, sounds like Bobby. His parents were the same way soft-spoken and good quality people. They lived up the street from us when we were kids.

Agreed, they should show the younger generation you have to be just as good off the field/ice as on.

wow, you really did know Bobby Orr. I just thought tht you were one of the million kids tht got into hockey because they idolized Bobby Orr.

@exitseven Actually, I never got into hockey, just played pond hockey growing up and watched a bit of the playoffs on TV.
My Dad was acquainted with Bobby's Dad and my Mom new Mrs. Orr because they worked downtown in stores next to each other.

Very cool. I worked for a company that made trophies. One year we made wooden plaques with a gold hockey Puck attached. This was when gold was still 32 dollars an ounce. I read in interview with Bobby Orr years later and he mentioned that he should put some of his awards in a safe deposit box. I wonder if he was talking about that gold Puck. It must be worth a small fortune today

@exitseven I am sure it is worth a small fortune. Bobby was definitely ahead of his time talent-wise, so he could very well have one of those plaques.

He absolutely does, one had his name on it. Ken Hodge, Phil Esposito and Ace Bailey I think also got them.
