How Painful are periods?

I know periods are painful, but how much?

I saw some videos on internet where girls and guys use some device like 'cramp simulator', where some guys wouldn't be able to handle pain at level3 from1-10 but some girls would laugh at level 10 whereas some guys wouldn't feel anything at level10 but girls would cry at level 3 I think that is fake and the simulator is not fully accurate and doesn't give complete experience.

I want girls to tell that how painful are periods with giving some relative examples and comparing them to some pain which both genders experiences.

Guys who already know good examples, please tell.

Well, everybody's pain threshold is different—even between different types of pain, so that probably explains the different reactions to the simulator. The only accurate indicator of how much pain someone is in is almost always how much pain they say they are in.

Personally, I've been having periods for over a decade. I'm finally on medication, which should eventually make them stop, but even within my limited experience the pain has varied from absolutely nothing to absolutely immobilizing physically, mentally, and emotionally.

For comparison:

I have cried from period pain and chain-tightening-to-pull-my-canines-out-of-my-gums pain. I have not cried from major-back-surgery pain, tattoo pain, poorly-stuck-16gauge-needle pain, or grandmother-clock-breaking-against-my-head pain.
I have passed out from period pain and poorly-stuck-16gauge-needle pain. Have not from the other pains.
I have thrown up from period pain and tattoo pain. Have not from the other pains.
I have lost the ability to walk, stand, and sit up—and all sense of shame—from period pain and major-back-surgery pain. Have not from the other pains.

So, as you can see, the experience is often just difficult to categorize. Just for me, it shares aspects of multiple types of pain, which each by themselves pass or miss the others on different scales. If I said my period felt like getting a tattoo that would be a lie, but in certain ways those do feel very similar to me.

From women in my life i Understood its like someone squeezing so hard and pulling the muscles in your lower abdomen. To the point they can't get out of bed. They vomit and feel like passing out. But usually everything goes away once they take a painkiller.

Every female is different, OBGYNs seem to have a hard time understanding that. For me, the first few days were bent over, not being able to move unless it was the every 30 minute trip to loo and more clothes in the washer, constantly trying to find a position to relieve the pain, clutching the heating pad as close to hot on my lower stomach area as I could stand and never letting it go like I had a serious love affair with it. What was it like?, It was like someone constantly shooting sandbags directly into your stomach, while having no control over your lower regions. Contractions? Pfft, they were nothing compared to nonstop days of pain for me. Reasoning for my pain level was that I've suffered my whole life from chronic anemia, I've had 2 blood transfusions, lost count of how many times I've fainted wherever I may be at the time and once been close to death without realizing I looked like a walking albino zombie. All due to mother nature's gift. Cheers to her. Smh. I will say though, I never had any anger, but I was emotionally disfunctional for a day or two and felt really weak then finally after day 4 or 5 I'd be feeling a lot better than 1 through 3.
Now ask me if I would have rather be born a man... no thinking about it. Hell yes!

it depends. (for me) sometimes there is practically no pain at all, other times is excruciating. i guess i would say when its very painful it feels similar to having an awful stomach bug because of all the cramping- though other things like headaches, nausea etc. add on to it and make it feel worse.

It's different for everyone, and I too question the accuracy and validity of those simulators. I want to buy one myself to test it. My period cramps usually aren't too bad, they just feel like a mild stomach ache. Although, sometimes it feels like someone is performing an emergency surgery on my lower stomach. That's pretty rare though.

You know that uncomfortable aching you get when you feel like you're gonna throw up? I'm not very queasy, so the only thing I know to compare it to is the time I ate spicy kimchi noodles when I had a fever and it didn't sit well with my tummy. That's pretty specific though, so you probably can't relate. Anyway, that's how it usually feels for me.

THANKFULLY my periods are painless with few cramps but sometimes it gets painfull especially period poops , im usually lazier or more tired on these days and more emotional , i hate walking on my period bc it feels like im going to bleed in my pants and leak , especially on stairs in school , i usually bring my legs so close together and hope no one notices on the stairs , and i find the nearest chair to sit on so the blood can settle down? if that makes sense , and i also hate coughing or sneezing for the same reason , i also hate when i wake up and find my bed sheets bloody although i try to sleep on my back but it's not comfortable and when ur wearing pads u can't sleep sideways bc it'll leak so sleeping is painful on periods , if my period was horrible most of the pain i would have is womb/stomach aches or down there would hurt too oh and back pain , or boob pain

2 months ago I got my period in the morning, I went to toilet and couldnt leave because I was unable to move. I had to call my roommate so that she could pick me up from the floor and help me relieve the pain. She brought a jacket, put it on my belly, made me sit on my flip flops (bc we are in the toilet) and then told me not to move because she would get her strongest medicine for cramps. I took it and then she carried me (yes, carried!!) to bed. The pain was just too much. I cried a lot until the medicine and the herbal tea did their job.

It's different for every woman. My periods are pretty terrible. Heavy flow, get nauseous, very tired, that area can sometimes feel sore/difficult to sit, lots of painful cramping. The cramps are even worse since I'm breastfeeding so gives the same effect as if I was in labor all over again. It sucks sooo bad. 😭

I think those simulators are targeted more towards labor contractions? which could be compared to slamming into a brick wall at 50mph. But cramps are like having your ovaries twisted and then very slowly let go, pain radiating to your back. Sometimes even my kidneys will start to ache. I don’t think there is really a way to explain, women are just built to tolerate cramping from a young age.

I usually don’t get cramps but when I do I’m in extreme pain and need to take pain relief medication right away which also doesn’t help right away and it sucks I’d say I have a high pain tolerance but god damn it’s painful when I do get cramps

It can depend a lot. I've had very very intense periods. Where I throw up of pain and just fall to the floor and scream. It can feel like a throbbing pain intense and your muscles tighten very hard. Some women with endometriouses experience this and some say the pain is equal or worse than natrual child birth. But most women dont have that much pain. Since I've become healthier my pain is not that severe:).

It can feel like death. Like, you definitely need to get to the hospital or you may die. It’s a crushing and stabbing pain in your lower stomach that travels into your butt, legs, arms and even hands. The pain can cause you not to breath. It comes in waves aswell, so if you’re lucky you’ll get a few minutes of relief before the pain hits again. I avoid walking and moving as much as possible. Oh, and the diarrhea and puking is awful too.

It would just depend on the woman. If just periods alone, then they tolerable unless you are talking about with cramps that are the severe ones that can actually affect their regular activities, thats not normal and has nothing to do with periods ALONE.

It varies. Sometimes it feels like nothing and can be easy to ignore. Most times it’s how I imagine being kicked in the groin would feel, only the foot stays there because it went up inside.

My periods used to be extremely painful during my teen years and 20s to the point I could barely leave the bed during the first two days. In my 30s I barely have cramps and the flow is much lighter.

I’ve had stomach pain that felt like knives stabbing me over and over again that felt like it was getting worse that I could do nothing about. It didn’t make me cry takes a lot to make me cry I’m pretty tough don’t even remember last time I cried but was probably about the same as period pain if I had a period unless girls exaggerate about it

It’s different for every woman. For me personally, I only have mild cramping. Meaning, I feel them, but it doesn’t affect my day. I’m able to go about my day like normal.

For me my period usually last an average on 5 days. It only hurts for day 1 and 2 days and stops hurting on day 3,4,5.
