So, when I am at work, I either use this site or YouTube, which are only two sites I can access from work. So, if you banned filming in the gym. Where would all the epic gym fail shorts, and videos come from?

I am just saying I get it; some random person does not want to be in you video, and sure there are crappy dude and dudettes out there just filming people, and its creepy.

But just think about all the joy and happiness that these epic fails videos bring into people lives! The humanity!!!

I mean if I wanted to see some chick completely destroy her nether regions with a exercise band snap back to the to crouch... how else would we achieve that without gym videos?

Yes. You're in a public place, they didn't agree to be filmed by you. It isn't security footage.

      Depends on state law.
"This may seem odd but if you record someone else in Massachusetts without their consent and you capture audio of that person then it violates our state wiretap statute. If you recorded video only and no sound absent ambient background sounds that does not violate the statute. If the person has been audio recorded and does not remove him or herself from the area then you may have implied consent. It is rather fact specific and depends on what you are using the recording for and whether there is some form of consent."

State laws are irrelevant because of the supremacy clause of the constitution. By the first amendment, recording public spaces is freedom of speech.

Oh well that's the fuck up of the state and sometimes they end up getting away with it. Like marijuana, states are deciding for themselves what to do about that even though technically they should have been rated and severely punished on day 1. Marijuana is a schedule 1 controlled substance.

I personally think marijuana should be legal but what I think is irrelevant when it comes to legal technicalities.

I think so. I understand wanting to film your own workout routine for whatever reason, but when you're in a gym, you're most likely not the only person there. I'm sure other people wouldn't want some random person filming, even if they're not trying to film other people. Sometimes you get random people in the background or maybe someone wants to use certain equpiment, but there's some person filming right by the equipment that you want to use. I can see how that would be annoying.

I think a little common sense is what is required. These "influencers" need to realise that they are in a public gym with other members who pay their membership just like them. It's not right to make false allegations and dox other gym goers so you can make click bait content.

If you want to video and post shit on your social media that's fine but have manners about it and don't video other people against their will and don't throw a hissy fit just because someone at the gym walked across your shot.

Not at all. That's a terrible idea. It would make people more insecure, less confident in themselves.

If we live in a world where you never have to come to terms with anything then there will be no motivation to hold yourself to any kind of physical or emotional standard.

The gym is a place for working out. People are listening to music, catching up on their news feed in between sets, sending memes to their buddies, asking their PT buddies about proper form.

A person's ability to do all of that would have to be impaired if you wanted to ban phones in gyms. I honestly can't believe people are just not embarrassed to say stuff like this out loud. It's so obviously counterproductive to society in exchange for such a minor convenience to a group of people who refuse to mature themselves in any way.

@DaveJord so the plan is to just ask people nicely to not record other people? What happens when someone is taking a selfie and no one worries about the girls doing it but when a guy does it, because some chick in the background happened to be there what do you think is going to happen to that guy?

It's a stupid idea if you think about it for more than 5 seconds

@DaveJord I'm sure it wasn't just a selfie too. It sucks people are like this but the reality is, there's always going to be someone snapping a salatious pic be it in the gym or the beach or walking down the street. Instead of trying to change society by coming up with more rules, maybe we should work on confronting these people. This is why it should be less illegal to attack people lol

There is no such thing as privacy anymore. Keep in mind that the gym probably has a dozen cameras up for yours and their safety. That video can be used for anything the gym wants.

Now do I think someone should be allowed to harass individuals while working out with cameras in their face… No they shouldn’t.

Only if it’s done without the knowledge and consent of the gym goers around you, yes. There’s a gym content creator that I watch sometimes, can’t remember her name but she’s a very kind and considerate lady, and EVERY video she does, she puts herself in a non-busy area of the gym, and if anyone walks into her cameras shot, she kindly lets them know that she’s recording herself, and that they’re welcome to stay in the video if they want to, but there’s no pressure.

The problem is that gym owners love the free publicity they get from a "guru" with 100k followers when their gym is shouted out. And so gym security will side with the influencer acting all entitled which makes them bolder.

I'm not a fan of relying on the government for menial things but in this case there should be a law that protects the average gym goer from having to be kicked out over this

Yes and no. Yes - when its violating anyone's privacy or annoys/distracts people from doing their excercise. No - when its done in dedicated area for such purposes. Gyms should probably consider some small special areas for "influencers". Like we have smoking areas for example.

hmmmmm! i have an idea. why not instead of banning it, seeing as people will break that kind of rule/law no matter what making gyms have to kick people out and thus loose money (i hear gyms often struggle finacially) . make it cost money, and not as a small fee. i would suggest $1000.00 minimum per filming (as a fine) and if it is a habit, it increases on subsequint times (5k, 10k, 30k, 50k, 100k)

Any public filming may show things/people in there that one may not want to see. I can be filming myself and my friends at a bar and some married guy may be there with his girlfriend who she cheats on the wife with. I am sure he would not want my video to go viral.

I'm all for it, mostly women that do that bullshit, and it's almost entirely for clout, and to prove a non existent point. Most men I know avoid women at all costs in the gym, they refuse to help or even spot for them lest they end up on some tiktok bitches video list. Interacting with women at these things is just not worth it.
