How is there a vaccine for chicken pox but not for cold sores?

Both are a form of herpes viruses and both hide from the immune system in the trigeminal ganglia, yet somehow there's a vaccine for chicken pox (varicella) but not for cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) and cold sores.

Unfortunately, pharmaceutical trials haven't been fruitful enough for them to roll them out. Several candidate HSV vaccines have been tested in humans, though. Moderna is working on one with a similar method that they used for the COVID vaccine.

I believe there are more subtypes of herpes that make it more difficult to target. They have been working on a vaccine for it for some time.

Good question, I wonder how hard science is working on a vaccine for cold sores, or even Herpes.
