What are symptoms of kidney stones? How did you know you have one?

Mine was a dull pain, that can be strong at times, in my mid to upper back. It will usually slightly favor one side or the other. It tended to flare up after I had been mowing the grass on the lawn tractor. I guess all the bouncing and jostling gets the stone on the move.

Doctors will usually check your urine first for any micro-amounts of blood. A kidney x-ray would confirm it.

Very sharp pain in your lower back. It's very likely you will just collapse when walking. The pain is unbearable.

Excruciating pain in your lower back. I was asleep when it hit and I jumped out of bed holding that area. My wife was a nurse and immediately recognized the sign of a kidney stone. The pain will lessen when it moves, but can flare up again. The stone should pass on its own, but sometimes medical treatment is needed. My doctor gave me a small strainer to pee through to see when it actually left my body.

Kidney stones are not a disease. It is something that sometimes happens. I had min almost 50 years ago and never another problem. I don't think it will be felt in the front. Google kidney stones for a complete description and also things you can drink that will help prevent them.
