Watching a movie or video showing the Japanese like to be clean, before sitting and soaking in the tub or bath. That made sense to me, because I discovered that sitting in 'dirty' bath water, made me want to exit the tub ASAP. If you shower first, getting hair, and body washed free of oil and/or anything you dont' want to 'soak' in makes the bath with oil, candles, and a glass of red wine more enjoyable.

BTY, I am in the process of UPGRADING our beautiful Kohler tub and shower and installing all new hardware in Brushed Nickel finish to match the multicolored gray/white/off white ceramic tile. Can't let that all go to waist!!

And how is Avalon today? Assuming you actually live on Santa Catalina...
No, Huntington Beach... Before COVID, I lost me great dive buddy to Cancer, and I have only been on a beech dive once, got knocked down in the surf and quit the dive. Have not been back since, but getting affiliated with a new dive club her and hope to get someone to dive with.
@Bricealan Well, If I can get my lady to dive the Channel Islands, I could drop you a line. She does love the tropics (who doesn't, wish for more money), but California diving has her seasick and terrified. I tell her down there is 10 degrees F warmer and the Channel Islands are much calmer and less choppy than Monterey and vicinity, but she is still skittish.
@Curmudgeon Catalina is a great diving place, and it was the first place I went to 100' with my club. Getting out of the water there is a bit 'hairy' because of the backwash pushing you into the concrete stairs and I am always a little wary of those steps. The swim out to drop down is nice though and the water is very deep and a lot to see.
@Bricelean Yah, my first experience with the Avalon stairsteps was a disaster. I tried a "giant stride" from the last stairstep and WHAMMMM! I ran into a large rock I had not noticed before, knocking the regulator out of my mouth and inducing total panic. But I am still here, hooray. Must ease one's way into the water and then explore the various obstacles in the Avalon Dive Park. Live and learn...
For reasons of distance and convenience I do normally take the 3 night liveaboards that go out of Santa Barbara harbor.
I was actually on "The Conception" dive boat in July 2019, 2 months (or was it 6 weeks or so) before that terrible fire accident in September, and all 30 odd of us had every accessory and camera and cell phone thing lithium ion battery related, plugged into every wall socket with dangling electric cords and multiple power strips for more outlets, even down in the cramped bunk beds below, and we had no idea we were all tempting fate, damn. The new dive boat owners of the remaining ships the Truth and the Vision now have installed metal locker areas with power sockets where things are recharged (and ONLY there) for safety. I honestly think it was just bad luck and I don't recall anything like that happening on any other dive boat before.
@Curmudgeon... I never understood how that fire killed everyone before anyone realized there was a fire and smoke? Aside from that, if on a dive boat the phone and charging would be the last thing on my priority list. I don't want to be bothered with those things diving, but that is just my preference. Just sad that all of those people lost their lives in such a horrible way!
Terrible story.
IIRC, the carbon monoxide from the electrical fire *sank* and went down the stairs from the galley and lounge level (2), into the bunkbed level (1) below, and the poor unfortunate people down there (all divers and 1 crew) asphyxiated. The rest of the crew were on top observation level (3), which actually makes sense for captain and lookouts, but were asleep and not aware of a problem until the boat was ablaze.
