Typically first couple of days I use tampons. Sometimes to day three. Then I just use pads from there on. I am on birth control so my periods tend to be very consistent and predictable. A couple of bad days and then spotting the rest of the time. I prefer a pad but have to use a tampon when it starts or I would be changing a pad constantly.

1.1K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. The pads are better for your health than tampons because they use dioxin to make them white. Otherwise they would look natural and not appealing. Dioxin is a cancer causing agent. It is used for the pads, toilet paper, paper plates, etc, to make them white
Many, many years ago there were talks about making toilet paper natural and eliminate the dioxin, but that never happened.
So, to have something, tampons, inside your body constantly for 24 hours a day for approximately 1-5 days you can see how the pads would be a better choice because they are worn outside of your body.58 Reply
Asker+1 yGood information Sage
+1 yNo direct experience. I just googled the subject.
Polyester is used in clothing, so it’s safe to use on the skin. Not toxic by itself. Polyester has a high moisture wicking ability, or known as a moisture super absorber in the tampon world. Proctor and Gamble was in a lawsuit in the 1980s for having too much polyester in their tampons causing Toxic Shock Syndrome. The ‘toxins’ were produced in excess by bacteria (staphylococcus) from the population imbalance, those toxins get into the blood stream. These bacteria naturally occur in the vagina, but they are in equilibrium with other bacteria under normal conditions (moisture, pH, temperature). People weren’t aware that you couldn’t leave this products inserted in the vagina for too long. P&G has since cut back on using that material switching to gentler absorbent material (cotton).
Glycerin is a chemical derived from fat either plant or animal based. We used it in the food industry as a food grade lubricant. Also non toxic. It’s safe for consumption in normal dosages.
Without reading the case, my guess is their product blended both cotton and polyester. Much the same way clothing does. The articles I read said it’s important to read the instructions regardless of what you buy. I don’t know if theyhave the same label laws like food, but the FDA does have rigorous trialing before approving a product for general public use. Feminine hygiene products are classified as medical products, I believe.

I tend to agree with women here in the comments. Using an undyed pad seems to be the safest and natural alternative than inserting foreign objects. I’m not sure how this affects women on-the-go like athletes.
Asker+1 yEspecially for young girls having their first period.

@jennz6 You’re welcome.
In the interest of transparency, the precursor chemicals in the manufacture of polyester can be carcinogenic. But those components are supposedly removed after polymer synthesis. Combusting polyester can create carcinogens, but so can burning wood or any organic compound. Avoid breathing smoke directly over a fire.
The forever chemical of polyester is by design, durable clothing. We don’t want clothes to be biodegradable and fall apart easily. So people shouldn’t litter and properly recycle their clothing. It makes polyester a poor choice of material for single use, disposable tampons. Cotton or some biodegradable material is probably better for the environment. I’m not sure about machine washable, reusable organic pads.
Undyed cotton pads seem to be the safest and natural choice. They’re probably all reasonably safe when used properly with accurate instructions.
I was never bothered by girls who had problems with their cycles. It was more be attentive if they asked and let them be otherwise.
Asker+1 yNobody really asked you
Asker+1 yMy mistake I should’ve made it for girls only

@jennz6 That’s okay. I was curious why I was invited to this question.

In the State I live in they passed a proposition that anything coming into our state that has cancer causing agents in or on it, they have a big tag on the item warning you that the item has cancer causing agents.
My slippers had that tag on them and so did my stereo and other things.
Since I don't get my period anymore, I don't know if tampons and pads have that warning on them or not.
The warning says to wash your hands after touching this product (my stereo).
Asker+1 y@sage2021 good job, thanks
+1 yI use Always ultra thin pads or U Kotex thin pads. Both are pretty good at absorbent and last longer. Thicker/regular pads don't work as well as the thins if you have a heavy flow like me. But I absolutely hate tampons. I only use one if I go swimming, which is rare thankfully. I don't care for an applicator cutting me up like bacon (ouch).

+1 yI use OB tampons with different absorbencies, with an Always pad for overnight or those really heavy flow days to catch accidents or if I am going out of the house. The last couple of days I will use just the pad unless I am going out because I have been tricked by my body before, where it makes me believe that it's stopping but then gushes again and it always seems to do that when I've left the house and have no access to a restroom.

+1 yPads because tampons can lead to toxic shock syndrome and I don't find them convenient. Also the former being more popular in my country ensures that I can buy authentic and good quality products.

You picked a great subject to eat your lunch while reading stuff about feminine hygiene products. But whatever turns you on. 😊
I use period cups or tampons depending on where I'm going. If I know that there won't be a faucet in the bathroom when going somewhere I will use tampons. But if I'm at home, or not gone for long, or if I know there's a faucet I will use a cup.

+1 yi tend to switch between pads and tampons depending on the flow and daily activities. chilling at home will tend to have pads as i'll probably end up in a bath anyway. going out tends to be tampons
10 ReplyTampons.
I bleed too much for just pads. I double team for the first 3 days. Then use pads for the last 2.

1 yI can’t say from experience, but I guess tampons are more discrete and versatile where as pads you have to wear panties big enough to hold it wearing tight pants would have a pad bulge. Swimming I would think would saturate the pad.
