For sure. I ride but I also go to the gym a lot. I have a pretty good foundation from riding since I was little but I don’t have any visible lines/muscles up until I started lifting weights. So yeah riding does strengthen your lower body but it won’t grow your muscles as much.

you ride from your pelvis and legs, so yeah, it works them a bit. plus if you're the owner or do most of the care, you work out your legs walking around everywhere, pushing wheelbarrows of poop and such.

Yes, you grip the horse with them. Also whilst trotting the practice is to continually raise and lower yourself on the saddle. Which works out the back of your thighs like squating would.
