Is 170 lbs overweight for a 5'7 female? Why does the Internet keep saying I'm overweight but people, even nurses say I'm a healthy weight?

Okay, guys, I'm sorry to ask this question, I'm just confused... I don't understand why everyone tells me I'm a healthy weight when I'm clearly overweight and need to work out, which I'm going to start doing... But I wanted to ask others for their opinions so that way I can understand better... Everyone I know, even nurses are saying I'm a healthy weight, but the Internet says I'm overweight. I'm going to go anonymous because this is embarrassing... No offense to other women of my size, I'm not trying to body shame anyone, I'm just wondering if I am overweight because people keep telling me I'm a healthy weight.

First off, all your friends are liars. All our friends are. Oh you're so smart/cute/funny/brilliant. That's what our friends say. Their opinion isn't objective and doesn't count for shite.

That's clearly overweight and no qualified medical professional should be saying otherwise unless looking at you it's clear that you're a high performing athlete. That's about a 26 BMI, which isn't the greatest indicator, but it's something, and if you're asking a bunch of randos on the internet I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't look like a performance athlete.

I was actually obese as a kid. If someone had checked my azz early in life instead of all that feel good "you look fine" shite then I'd have had a much easier time getting in shape later.

It's overweight, but you can be overweight and healthy still. Everyone carries their weight differently especially for women, which is decided by your genes, so there's no definitive answer. The BMI isn't meant to be taken literally, but as a guide.

Go off of how you feel and what medical professionals tell you.

The BMI is bullshit and doesn't take muscle mass and bone structure into account. If you have big bones and a lot of muscle, you're probably not very overweight. If you don't have big bones and a lot of muscle, then you are most likely overweight. Ask your doctor. If you don't have jiggly fat, then you're not fat. It's as simple as that.

Diet is more of a factor when losing weight. Exercise is always great, though.

Some people don't get a double chin until they're super overweight, some people always look fat in the face. That's not a litmus test. I had a 44 inch waist and no double chin or back of head fat

That is a BMI of 26.6, which is slightly into the range of being overweight.

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
Overweight = 25–29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
