What’s the English word for these things?

I just realized that I don’t have any stitches after surgery 🤣 I mean I knew, I didn’t have them, but I didn’t know the English word for what I had and thought they were called stitches.

Actually my wound was sealed with this thing, it causes almost invisible scar, I wonder what’s the English name of it?

I am glad, I’ve got those. I wonder though, If the wounds can be sealed with such nice devices, why do some people get sutures and stitches?

So, I got rid of those butterfly stitches and I am impressed, the cuts are very small and almost invisible after a bit over two weeks.

Regarding your update... depends on the pull strength of the wound. Stitches/sutures hold harder than the bandages, so if it's something deep or likely to split, the stitches are stronger. Duct tape vs welding of sorts.

They come in other brands, but Clozex are the ones I see most commonly outside of the military.

It's an external butterfly suture. Not every wound is suitable for them. It depends where the cut is, if it's weight-bearing, highly mobile, etc.

After my leg and my toe were amputated I had to have traditional stitches because of the nature of the wound. I have a friend who had her appendix out and she had that type.

My biggest cut is at my ankle, about the same size as the one on a photo and other 3 cuts are tiny above the ankle on my shinbone. All of them have butterfly stitches.

Hopefully it won't scar as a result. There's a lot of care put into aesthetics these days - I don't think not having a scar would have hidden the missing leg in my case though 🤣🤣

As long as we are not missing our heads, we are lucky.

It is what it is. Life tests us, but it also shows us our power, things we can do, when life slams us. That you can still stand with just one leg on, hell, I am sure there’s someone dancing out there with no legs at all.

I am happy you’ve still got your 2nd leg.

It won’t scar, I think. But even if it does, I don’t mind. I collected scars in childhood :P I loved telling stories about them.

I'm not bothered about the leg. My surgeon explained that it was lose my leg or die as I was too weak to survive the infection at the time. Then he asked if I had any questions and I said "where can I get a parrot 🦜?"

I have a whole pack at home, and it's called a wound closure strips. Having two quite clumsy daughters means you use a lot of them :D

It depends on the depth of the injury as well as the size and the part of the body

In my restaurant days, I cut most of finger tips at different times... some were just regular band-aid jobs but others were stitched, stapled and even glued together again

Update: Sutures and stitches won’t reopen as easily. They can’t be washed off. However, they have downsides as well. I have a railroad track scar on my back from leaving sutures in too long. I have another on my abdomen that looks fine and was removed in time.

I'm not sure what the actual name is but they have always called smaller versions you get at the drug store butterfly bandage. Those things suck, stitches work way better unless they are planning to open it back up soon. There's already going to be a scar anyways

The problem is you can't get them wet and you have to put new ones on because the adhesive fails in a few days, they don't fully close the wound, etc. They are good if you want the wound to remain open to promote drainage, though

It looks like a variation of the Stryker Zip closure, but using nylon zips instead of the loops that Stryker on theirs, they are just as secure as stitches or staples, are easier to remove, and the scaring should be less.

If stitches are done correctly there is very little scarring. I had my face gashed in two places requiring stitches (hockey) you can barely see the scars. Worst part of that experience was the tetanus shot... ugh.
