How hot are you,?

Over the last 200 years it has been thought that the normal human body temperature is 98 6 degrees. A major 20 year study has been done to suggest that maybe it is really 97 9 degrees.

I have noticed that my body temp is usually lower than 98. 6. Sometime it is lower than 97.9. I just figured that the thermometer was out of calibration. Maybe it is something else.

That 98.6 degrees was the baseline temperature for a white male, 6'2", 190 lbs back in the 1800s. The number was an average of a small group of guys who pretty much looked the exact same, i. e., zero diversity, because it was the 1800s. Because some things in the scientific and medical community take literally forever to update, that number is still regarded as the baseline body temperature for the global population.

Ask me what my average body temperature is? If I have a 98.6 temp, that means I'm actually sick and have a fever. My core temp is 97.3. My partner's is also in the 97 range. Now I'm white, she's mixed, but that also shows you that the 98.6 is not definitive of all people everywhere.

A person's unique body chemistry, diet, genetics, health while developing, current health all play a role in determining at what temperature are their body's chemical reactions most efficient.

My normal body temperature is 97.0. Yes, they have changed the 98.6. Now a normal temperature for an adult is between 97°F - 99°F. I just looked it up.

I usually read on the lower end of the -still normal temperature- which is weird... because I usually feel like a radiator

When I'm feeling fine, my temp is usually somewhere between 98.2 and 98.6. If I'm not feeling well, sometimes it's lower than that, in the high 97s, and sometimes it's higher, up to 101.

It varies. Your extremities are cooler than your torso. But probably 98.6. That’s the datum I use when checking for fevers.
