Which pain in your opinion is the worst?

I have a neck pain now and it bothers me to get up from a lying position. The culprit is a pillow that's too high and I have to get rid of. The other pains that are pretty bad is a toothache, and a backache especially the lower back. I think the lower back pain is worst of all.

The worst (which may or may not be the most severe) that I've experienced is from a gall bladder attack.

Picture this: you go to sleep, and everything's dandy at first. Then, about 30-45 minutes later, you wake up again, with minor discomfort in your side. No big deal; you turn over, change your position slightly, and go back to sleep. But then you wake up again, and it's worse- but just a little. Time and again, you try to doze off; maybe you succeed and maybe you don't, but the suffering keeps inching upward, and eventually you realize this isn't going to stop. So you get up- and that's when the nausea kicks in.

Like the pain, it's not severe at first, but it builds, and builds unrelentingly. The puking starts, and doesn't stop until your belly is empty. Don't think that means you're free, though; you've got another 4-6 hours of sitting on the bathroom floor, rocking back and forth to find the least painful position, periodically retching- just retching; you don't HAVE anything more to puke up. Even THAT doesn't mean you're safe, though, since sometimes you get bile.

Imagine, please, sitting in front of the toilet, gut burning with pain that makes you want to scream, utterly exhausted, wishing you could just pass out, and then the next retch brings up grayish-yellow fluid, and this means your bile duct is connected, and your reaction isn't relief at the fact that you're not dying of pancreatic cancer, but sorrow, since THAT WOULD AT LEAST STOP THE PAIN.

Gall bladder attacks are caused by the bile inside calcifying, and then when your body needs to release it, it squeezes down on what's quite literally a pointy rock. Many people sleep through the earlier phases, then wake up and think they're having heart attacks. I've heard women describe them as worse than childbirth- although that's very subjective, since childbirth is much worse for some than others, and gall bladder attacks, too.

It is. The one good part is that when (and among sufferers, it's a matter of WHEN, not if) you get it removed, it never happens again. And from then on, whenever part of your body isn't working right, you can threaten it with "remember what happened to the gall bladder?".

I remember my Mom having gall bladder problems too, and she had it removed (?) too. I was so young when it happened, but I think that's what happened. She could not eat any fried foods at all.

Yeah, the main function of the gall bladder is to hold bile, then release it when your body eats something fatty, to break it down better. Without that storage, you need to adapt to eating fatty stuff again quickly, or you'll lose the ability.

Oh yeah. Luckily I only fell about 8 feet to my deck. And I landed on a collapsed fiberglass ladder that absorbed a lot of the impact I think (because I destroyed that ladder when I landed). I had no lasting effects that I know of (that's another story🤣). Only got a really bad sprained back out of it. But I could hardly move without pain for 3 days. That's when I discovered Ibuprofen.🤣
This was like 15 years. Ago I've recently started developing issues with my lower back. Apparently I've always had scoliosis. But they x-rayed my back and say I have retrolisthesis they say it can't be fixed but I do back exercises and that has helped tremendously.

I can't recommend anything for your neck but I can recommend the back exercises they have me do.

Thank you, my neck is getting better slowly. What happened to you sounds very painful. Keep ding those exercises. I have been on and off Ibuprofen since I had a knee implant done last year in late spring. I still take it for the knee which remains very stiff if I don't take it at least once a day, but I was taking 2 of them 3 times a day. I hope to be able to not take any more.
My lower back has issues too. I have 2 herniated discs in the lower back. I once went to get my laundry from the dryer in my basement, bent and turned toward the dryer and felt a startling sharp pain in the back that made me straighten up right away. I went slowly upstairs to the first floor. I had gone totally white from the pain and felt faint. I think that was one of the worst pains I've had, besides contractions before labor. The back pain was worst.

I can usually handle when my body hurts, but there was one time, years ago, I was woken up in the middle of the night by the most excruciating pain I've ever felt. My entire knee felt like it had just been hit by a sledgehammer. I don't know if I did anything earlier that day that would've triggered it or if it was just because of the cold (it was a really cold night), but the pain was unbearable. I didn't think I was going to be able to fall back asleep, but I eventually did.
I've always been a little "prone" to knee pain, but that was by far the worst.

And whenever I get period cramps, those can have me doubling over sometimes.

You can take stuff for cramps. I used to suffer a lot with that. There's Pamprin and other meds for them now.

Out of the ones you mentioned? I would say toothache, headache, and then back pain from most painful to least. Mouth pain is the worst to get at least at a casual level.

Of course, there's going to be exceptions and everyone reacts to each type of pain differently.

I don’t know if you suffer from back pain sometimes like I do, being you’re so young. I guess you need to experience all to see it for yourself. You’re right, it can be different for everyone. Thanks for the input.

A decade ago, I had serious back pain, and I have seen my grandmother have it worse. It definitely is very inconvenient and can exhaust you, especially if you can't sleep well due to it.

The main reason I put mouth pain at the top is that it can stop you from eating, and it is equally as exhausting. It just depends on the person and the circumstances for any of these on how bad it is.

I have occasional bouts of sciatica. Extremely painful... from the lower back all the way down the leg.

I'm sorry you're feeling pain. Try a sculptured pillow that is built to conform to your head and neck. That's what I use and I rarely have neck pain, soreness or tightness from sleeping.

I've got a slipped disk that plays up and I can't walk usually at all for a day. I've broken bones and continued to work the next day. The pain of loneliness is greater than the pain of broken bones and sinew. :)
