What will make drug addict quit?

So... ugh... WHAT WOULD MAKE AN ADDICT QUIT?

Id like to hear from ex addicts, present addicts, doctors etc.

I know this dude, successful business owner, has a beautiful wife, etc. We were talking about all the homeless drug addicts in the neighborhood. He said he used to be a homeless heroin addict. Used to sleep on the sidewalk in Skid Row for at least a couple years. One day he woke up on the sidewalk, sick as a dog, coming down and jonesing for more dope and asked himself "why the fuck am I doing this?" He decided at that moment that he wanted a better life for himself. Not sure if he went to rehab or not but he stopped being a heroin addict and made a better life for himself. That's what it takes. Somebody has to want a better life for themselves. They have to want to stop dragging themselves through the mud.

Support from their family and friends and a reason to believe they don't need "Kicks" (Paul Revere and the Raiders;strange what we ol' boys can burp out of our memory) to have a true life.

I just do not understand what he wants from me anymore
One second he says he misses me and wants me to stay with him
Other time he says im stressing him and he needs to be on his own

He takes drugs when his hands hurts
His stomch hurts his leg hurts he is angry or stressed
Or feels tired or needs beer or feels sleepy or his back hurts...
Its always a reason for him to do it

Depends on what it is they are addicted to for some prison is a way just because they have harder time getting it and i ain't talking weed , I knew someone that killed a guy for the measly few bucks to get some meth I also know someone who was beaten so badly that it was the corner that realized he was alive he was beaten and robbed for about 50 bucks worth of dope , got friends that are doing serious time for manufactering , my step sister did 20 years for a large possesion of meth her daughter was 3 years old when she went in and graduated when she got out and when she got out started doing meth again some people can't quit in my opinion rehab should be free but it is not and sometimes its quite expensive
