C-section experiences: If you’ve had one, or if your partner/wife has had one?

What was your experience like? Or if your partner/wife is the one who had the C-section, how was their recovery? What are some things that you would say to a woman who’s getting a c-section - information that you didn’t know until afterwards?

Both of my kids were born by C-section. The scar is relatively small and below the panty line. My wife was up walking the very next day (with a walker). We were in the hospital for two or three days after…. which was nice having the hospital’s support while she was healing. Her mom hung out with us for the first month and we were on our own after that. Healing time…don’t recall exact timing, but it wasn’t as long as you would think. Kids were healthy and No after effect and hasn’t inhibited her in any way.

The nice part about it, it is scheduled. You know the day and time you are going to do it. Down side, healing takes a little longer.

Did your wife struggle with breastfeeding afterwards? I’ve heard that c-section can delay your breast milk coming in, compared to vaginal delivery.

No issues. Started right away and never had issues producing.

All 3 of our kids were C-sections. My then-wife never went into labor in her first pregnancy so her obgyn did a C-section. The next 2 kids were scheduled C-sections.

I was in the delivery room for the first birth, and I got a little queasy seeing the blood. I waited outside on the next two, making sure that mother and baby (not me) were being taken care of.

TBH, it was a lot less than I thought. A relatively small incision, and a few weeks for her to recover... no going up and down stairs for awhile. I helped out with teh usual house chores while she took care of the baby... upstairs in our bedroom and nursery.

I've never had one (it's my worst fear tbh) but I do know that if you ask for something called a TAP block immediately after the c section it can help a lot with pain. Also buy these for the scar to make it less sensitive. That's the only tips I know. Everyone has a different experience with the surgery so if you have to have a c section hopefully it goes smoothly.

I had a horrible experience. I freaked out hemorrhaged could hear blood spilling out of me. Going in and out. Felt them pulling the baby out... I had to be put to sleep

Only in the USA can you have major abdominal surgery and be tossed in the street 48 hours later. It's a sad, sick society.

Very thankful to not live there when it comes to anything medical related. Here in NZ, hospital care is free unless you go private, and the standard hospital stay post-birth is 3 days for vaginal delivery, or 5-7 days for c-section.

My wife had three of them. I watched them all. It is major surgery and there is a long recovery time. Maybe 6 to 8 weeks. The babies are better looking because they do not get all beat up like they do in a vaginally birth.

My wife has had two. The first one was last minute/semi emergency the 2nd one was scheduled. She has a small patch of skin that us numb from it but other than that it was a typical c section.

Is it numb because the nerves never healed back together properly?

My ex had two of them and if I was a woman or recommending one I would say that there was no other choice. Less stress on the child ie. Breach births etc, no lengthy labour's and the convenience to schedule exactly when the birth will be so everyone required to be there will be.

From having watched my mum do a few for work experince, they make a small incision near the womb and pull the baby out. Its normally the final opition if they think the baby is gonna cause a health risk to mum, baby won't surrive vaginal birth.

I hear they strap you down for it, chest legs, even your arms and wrists... sounds awful tbh

I’ve heard that in rare cases they strap your arms down so that you don’t accidentally interfere with the surgery, but it’s not common practice these days.
