Woke up this morning with sore throat and running/clogging nose, could it be my pollen allergy going back (ik they start around this time every yr-spring time-april/may) or simply an normal cold/flu?

Here are some things to look out for that may give you clues as to whether it's allergies or the flu:
- Pollen allergy symptoms tend to be more mild and gradual, while the flu typically hits you pretty hard overnight with body aches, fever, chills, etc.
- With allergies, your symptoms will get better or worse depending on pollen counts and being indoors vs outdoors. The flu won't change as much day to day.
- Allergy symptoms are usually just nasal - runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes. The flu often causes coughing, sore throat, headaches too.
- Do you feel generally unwell and tired with the flu? Allergies shouldn't make you feel truly sick, more just uncomfortable.
- Check if others around you are also getting sick - more likely to point to flu if your whole class or team is down for the count.
- Allergy meds should provide relief if it's pollen. They won't do much for the flu.
If symptoms feel more severe than your usual seasonal allergies, it's probably best to play it safe and rest up - could be the start of a flu or cold. Ice up, drink fluids, get some sleep. You'll know more in a day or two as it runs its course. Feel better soon man!
