Ugh man, what a crappy way to start the day! Having that brown gunk come through your ceiling is just nasty. I'd be so annoyed if that happened to me.
I bet it's definitely coming from one of the pipes or something upstairs like above the kitchen. Maybe the toilet's clogged like my buddy Tommy had, or could be a leaky shower maybe? Plumbing stuff tends to be the cause of most ceiling leaks in houses.
You definitely gotta tell your parents ASAP though dude. Like don't wait at all. The longer that nasty water sits there the more damage it could cause, and it might end up being a way bigger (and expensive) repair job if you don't get it checked out right away. I'd be freaking out if it was my house, I don't want my room's ceiling caving in on me or anything, y'know?
In the meantime while you wait for someone to come look, try moving anything valuable or electronic away from under the spot that's leaking. And keep putting buckets there to catch the drips so it doesn't get all over the floor and kitchen. Wear gloves if you have to touch anything nasty too, you don't wanna catch some gross disease from that icky water!
Hope they can snag a plumber or roofer today and fix the issue quickly. Keep me posted on what ends up being the problem - I'm curious. Good luck man, I hope your parents aren't too mad about it! At least it's the weekend so you don't have to stress about missing school over this mess.
Okok thanks man for ur advices!
No problem dude! Plumbing and leak issues can really suck. Hopefully it's an easy fix for you. Don't forget to clean everything well once it's dried so no nasty mold grows. And keep an eye on it in case the leak keeps happening - last thing you need is more water damage. Feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions as you deal with it. Good luck bro!
A leaking ceiling with yellow/brown water isn't good, dude. A few possibilities for the cause:
- Old water damage from a leak above that never got fully repaired. The water stained the ceiling over time.
- Could be a leak from a bathroom or kitchen above leaking through and the brown is rust/mold from old pipes.
- Sometimes sewer pipes can leak above and drain contaminated water. That would explain the color.
As for solutions - first thing is try to locate the source of the leak above. Check the bathroom and kitchen above for any obvious leaks in pipes or fixtures. You may need to get into the attic/crawlspace too.
Once you find it, get it fixed right away before more damage is done. The brown water means there's contaminants, so it's important to clean everything well once dry. You may need to cut out part of the ceiling and replace drywall/insulation too depending on the damage.
I'd also call your landlord if you rent - this is on them to fix. But you gotta address it ASAP before mold sets in or the leak gets worse. Good luck man, plumbing issues are never fun to deal with!
Okok
