Have you/do you lie on your medical records?

Question

*I know they ask certain things so certain meds won't clash and you can be more susceptible to certain illness and so forth, but how many are truly honest on their medical records? Because... Example: No matter what you're there for at the doctors (you can say your toe hurts, lol), they always ask if you smoke, do cannabis, drink, are sexually active, if you are depressed... etc. Have you ever lied on any of that? Because I am trying to wonder, how many people would actually be honest if they do drugs or something like that? (It doesn't seem like a good idea to tell anyone because it causes problems, obviously.) It's not like the doctor can force you to stop anyway, you know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No I've never lied. But then I don't do recreational drugs. I'm honest. I told my dr I have issues with anxiety, he recommended I try counseling, I wasn't keen on it but tried it anyway. Did like 3 sessions felt like I was being talked to like I was a child and felt very uncomfortable so I stopped. That dr ended up leaving. New dr asked me about it. I said that I didn't like it, I'm not interested in trying any medication for it yet, would like to try changing my birth control first to see if that makes a difference. He was sort of against it, I think he realised he fucked up when he said "in my experience", I gave him that *you're a man you have no experience in this department* look. At the end of the day it's my decision he said so he switched me over and of course gave me the run down of all the possible side effects. He's being extra vigilant on checking my blood pressure and getting bloodwork to check on my cholesterol and B12 (had issues previously) . Which I think is great and I've never had a dr be so thorough.

They can only make recommendations and tell you potential side effects of your lifestyle. Which I guess could be embarrassing for some. If you're honest with them I think it can give them some good insight into any issues that arise in future.

A coworker of mine was vegan for 2 years. Started getting some weird chest pains that wouldn't go away. Her bloods showed a couple things were extremely low, things they would see in malnourished children the drs couldn't figure out why. She was on some hardcore pain relief for it. Her dr even at one point suggested she gets CBD oil illegally (because it's the same price as getting it legally and takes less time) After about 6 months I asked her if she's mentioned to her dr that she's vegan. She hasn't, didn't mention it, was not asked.

Started slowly introducing some meats and dairy back into her diet and the problem was solved.

OMG, NEVER! My mom's a trauma surgeon, and she has always impressed upon the three of us siblings that no matter what, you never lie to your doctor! It doesn't matter if you don't think it's relevant, or if you think it might be embarrassing, they’re legally not allowed to tell your parents if you admit to being sexually active, or if you've been drinking anyway! You might as well be honest. Besides, I've always been paranoid that the one thing I do not tell the doctor will be the one thing she needed to accurately diagnose me! If anything, I probably over share. I remember being at the gynecologist and seeing on the form "are you sexually active", leaving it blank, and telling her nurse that I need to speak to the doctor before I filled that out. When the doctor asked me if I was sexually active, (she knew I’d been raped by my uncle 3 days after my 13th birthday, and meant other than forcible rape!) I asked her (in a whisper) if masturbation counted, and she very sweetly said “No sweetheart, that doesn't count! Just make sure you wash your hands before and after, and always make sure the door is locked”. Then she gave me a little smile and a wink as if to let me know “It's okay… we all do it.”. But no, I'm always honest with my doctors.

but last time I was sedated for internal examination they had problems with my blood pressure and the anesthesiologist accused me for taking psychoactive substances :D

I suggested them to do blood check, as they took samples and conversation ended :D

How can your doctor help you if he is under another impression of you? I tell my doctor EVERYTHING!! Lying is never a good idea especially in this case

Only time I've ever lied is when a question asked me something about mental health. I can't remember what it was, so I just said no even though the answer would've been yes. But that was due to my own anxiety disorder and me not wanting to worry family so yeah. But I have plenty of emotional & mental issues they don't know about, so it's ok. And I'm on anxiety pills since last year, so it fixed some stuff. So, there's nothing to worry about now.

No I don't lie to my doctor during my annual appointment, because it would defeat the purpose of going to see her in the first place. However I do have a habit of forgetting to tell her things during the actual appointment, and almost always wind up having to call her afterwards.

I have nothing worth lying about. And even if I did, I wouldn't lie. That could put my life in danger... say I get a prescription with horrible interactions with something I'm already taking, that my doctor doesn't know about.

If you want to lie to your doctor, maybe you shouldn't be seeing a doctor.

No, but they think I do I'm sure. I keep a folder with a family tree because being an only child I don't technically qualify as "high risk" for cancers even though both my uncle and grandpa had prostate cancer, my father had skin cancer, and my mom, her mom, 2 of her 4 sisters, and 3 of her nieces had breast cancer... I'm a little worried about the cancer.

? not once have i been asked if i smoke weed or am sexually active (sexually active questions only when at gyno for obvious reasons). or if i'm depressed. they only ask about cigarettes or drinking and that's rarely that they ask that. they normally just ask what i'm dealing with and why i'm there... what kind of doctor are you going to?

i don't do drugs, smoke, or drink so i don't have anything to lie about.
